Manager, Cargo Demand & Product Development

1 Full-time, Permanent Position

The Manager, Cargo Demand & Product Development will report to the Director, E-Commerce, Cargo & Aviation Real Estate and is accountable for expanding cargo demand and increasing cargo tonnage at YEG. This position is focused on partner relationships, strategic practices, business plans and activities that are aligned to YEG’s mission, vision and business strategies. This individual is responsible for delivering results and effectively executing on cargo demand development priorities and development of new cargo import/export products primarily through cultivating strong relationships between the airport and cargo industry and logistics partners.

The Manager, Cargo Demand & Product development will work with regional cargo industry partners and businesses to promote use of air cargo services to/from YEG, nurture and develop new business opportunities with the end goal of translating into air cargo growth and promote our region globally to attract new cargo business to locate to YEG. This position is a highly visible role, interfacing with all Strategic Business Units and key stakeholders across the organization.

You might be wondering what you can expect in a typical day at work. Every day will bring new opportunities, focusing on key responsibilities, including:

  • Lead role for account management of existing and strategically relevant cargo industry businesses such as Freight Forwarders, Shippers and Logistics companies based on identifying and delivering value for the partners and YEG. This includes relationship management, development and delivery of business cases, and commercial negotiations with decision makers.
  • Focus on planning, developing and executing business development activities related to the growth of cargo demand aligned with growing the air cargo network at Edmonton International Airport.
  • Lead strategic interactions with the local and expanded cargo community, building mutually beneficial relationships and exploring business growth opportunities.
  • Work collaboratively with internal team members to secure support for key stakeholders, including cargo customers and the airport industry in support of our business plan.
  • Develop cargo proposals for both existing and potential new cargo demand partners; identify, generate and evaluate such opportunities through comprehensive market research, modelling, analysis and the presentation of high-quality business cases for prospective and existing cargo partners.
  • Develop, implement and review Cargo demand development processes to ensure compliance with policies, standards, regulatory requirements and ensure mitigation of risks.
  • Collect cargo tonnage data from industry, both from regulatory and government bodies and directly from exporters in the region. Research and analyze data to create target markets for cargo growth & incorporating data into business cases.
  • Identify and target cargo export opportunities and direct towards flights operating at YEG.
  • Demonstrate a high performance, high discipline, safe, accountable, focused, innovative and achievement-oriented, easy to do business with manner of working.
  • Strong communication and coordination with internal YEG team in order to recognize the cargo community’s future direction and needs.
  • Build and maintain key community stakeholder relationships, including Economic Development authorities, relevant Associations, Freight Forwarders, Airlines, end-users and shippers.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Develop and implement Cargo demand and product development strategy & alignment and understanding of ERAA corporate and Air Service and Business Development’s strategy.
  • Identify the necessary budget requirements for the provision of Cargo demand business development activities.
  • Ongoing research, monitoring and communication of cargo and logistics related developments.
  • Working with on-airport cargo partners to maximize the efficiency of their operations and overcome obstacles.
  • Identify targets for tenancy in on-airport facilities.
  • Research and develop opportunities for cargo and transportation infrastructure development.
  • Travel to conferences and visit industry partners as required as this is an externally focused position.
  • Willingness and ability to travel nationally and internationally.

You Have:

Education

  • Undergraduate degree in Business, Economics or Marketing or equivalent, or a combination with a minimum of five years’ relevant industry experience.
  • Master’s degree in any of the above disciplines viewed as an asset.

Experience

  • Relevant cargo industry experience including working knowledge and experience in cargo business development for airports, freight forwarding, logistics, airline cargo sales.
  • Experience developing proposals for both existing and potential new cargo and logistics companies.

Competencies and Knowledge

  • Understanding of relevant economic indicators affecting Edmonton and its competitive position in relation to other western Canadian airports.
  • Business Development knowledge focused on air cargo and identification of new growth opportunities as well as growing existing customer business.
  • Developed understanding and knowledge of the Canadian and global air cargo industry.
  • Strong collaboration, communication & interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to research, analyze, and present data gathered from a wide variety of reference sources.
  • Proven ability to lead major projects for an organization including budget management and analysis.
  • Strong attention to detail resulting in excellent output.
  • Self-motivated and results driven.
  • Negotiation and persuasion skills.
  • Excellent oral, presentation and written communication skills with the ability to present information in a concise, clear, and articulate manner; other languages would be an asset.
  • Ability to develop and establish relationships at all levels both internally and externally.
  • Ability to be flexible, adapt quickly to change and realign business priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to think outside the box and take initiative to solve problems as they arise.
  • Advanced proficiency with MS Office (Power Point, Word, Access, and Excel).
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to secure and maintain appropriate airport security clearance and acceptable criminal record check is required.

SALARY: Commensurate with experience
