We are currently seeking a Manager of Business Development to join our Business Development team in Richmond.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

The Manager, Business Development serves as the primary point of contact for all new and prospective clients at IntermodeX. This role is responsible for managing all correspondence with potential customers, including responding to inquiries about the company's services, handling RFPs and tenders, and identifying opportunities in emerging commodity markets. Reporting to the Director, Commercial Strategy & Business Development, the Manager will also collaborate closely with the President to support broader business development initiatives and organizational priorities.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  1. Oversee and manage the full business development cycle: From lead generation and identifying key decision-makers to screening opportunities, qualifying prospects, selecting deals aligned with company strategy, and leading pitch preparations and logistics.
  2. Maintain and manage the sales pipeline: Ensure accurate, up-to-date data management through diligent manual tracking and reporting.
  3. Lead proposal and presentation development: Create compelling proposals, presentations, and business cases to nurture opportunities and establish strategic partnerships.
  4. Identify market trends and evolving customer needs: Conduct comprehensive market research to gain insights into customer objectives, buying behaviors, and decision-making processes.
  5. Develop business opportunities in new commodity markets: Proactively explore and pursue opportunities to expand the company's presence in emerging sectors.
  6. Build and maintain strong client relationships: Develop a deep understanding of company services to identify and pursue profitable business opportunities with both new and existing customers.
  7. Implement customer acquisition strategies: Manage the end-to-end proposal response process, including gathering inputs, developing content, and ensuring timely, high-quality submissions for RFPs and tenders.
  8. Collaborate cross-functionally: Work closely with the President, Vice President, and other internal stakeholders to support business development initiatives and organizational priorities.
  9. Share industry knowledge and insights: Represent the company at networking events, conferences, and presentations while continuously educating customers and stakeholders on market trends and company capabilities.
  10. Monitor and manage financial performance: Track expenditures, budgets, and financial goals to support business development activities and organizational growth.
  11. Be a Team Player: Perform other related duties and projects as assigned.


WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

We're looking for someone with the right blend of knowledge, skills, and abilities to succeed in this role.

Knowledge:
  1. Post-secondary education in Business, Commerce, Transportation/Warehousing, Sales, Marketing, or a related discipline.
  2. Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in a complex transportation interface environment, including marine, trucking, rail, and warehousing operations.
  3. Proficiency in English is required.
  4. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word); experience with Office 365 and PowerPoint is an asset.
  5. Experience in the design, development, and implementation of business development strategies is a strong asset.

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL / SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

In addition to a standard office environment, this position will represent the Company at industry events, conferences, and community functions, occasionally outside of regular business hours. The role requires provincial, national, and international travel (approximately 30%), which may involve a significant degree of personal commitment and schedule flexibility. Periodic on-site presence at all IntermodeX facilities is required, with occasional exposure to outdoor conditions including heat, cold, rain, and operational noise.

COMMUNICATION:

Requires strong interpersonal skills to establish, develop, and maintain meaningful relationships with new and prospective customers. Involves frequent external engagement, including presentations to key stakeholders and customers, requiring clear, confident, and effective communication across all channels. Actively represents the organization at networking events, industry functions, and community activities, promoting the company's brand and business interests.
