Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia is currently searching for a Manager, Built Environment and Seismic Initiatives to join our team in Burnaby for an 11-month contract running from February 2025 until January 2026.

The Manager, Built Environment and Seismic Initiatives will help further EGBC’s mandate to protect the public and the environment in BC by managing the development, implementation and education of professional practice guidance and requirements related to the built environment and seismic mitigation. This work is focused on proactively setting out the expectations and obligations of professional registrants engaged in these sectors, which is achieved through engagement, consultation, and maintenance of a knowledge base within these sectors.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

  • Manages various professional practice projects and initiatives within the built environment sector, including management of related contracts, budgets and invoicing.
  • Manages various professional practice projects and initiatives related to addressing seismic risk, including management of related contracts, budgets and invoicing.
  • Maintains relationships and partnerships with industry associations, institutes, societies, regulators, and government bodies on professional practice initiatives within the built environment and/or related to seismic safety.
  • Acts as primary staff support for the Built Environment Advisory Group and the Technical Review Board.
  • Liaises and coordinates with other EGBC staff, teams and departments with regards to projects and initiatives related to practice within the built environment and/or seismic safety. Oversees and reviews work product related to these projects and initiatives.
  • Delivers presentations and Continuing Education offerings on guidelines, advisories and other regulatory requirements and standards related to built environment, seismic initiatives, and other topics, as assigned.
  • Provides support to the Practice Advisors in responding to practice inquiries related to built environment and/or related to seismic safety in BC and other topics as necessary. This includes providing professional practice and ethical advice to registrants, the public, provincial and municipal government, and others.
  • Provides subject matter expertise internally and externally related to engineering and geoscience practice within the built environment and/or in relation to seismic safety in BC and with regards to professional reliance and relevant demand-side legislation in BC.
  • Other duties as assigned by direct leader and, as appropriate, members of the departmental leadership team.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

The successful candidate will meet the following requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering. Preference for candidates with a background in civil and/or structural engineering.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Professional Licensee Engineering (P.L.Eng.) with EGBC is required.
  • 5-7 years of experience in the practice of professional engineering offering not only technical expertise but also advanced communication, networking and presentation skills and abilities.
  • 5+ years of experience working in project management.
  • Advanced communication skills, both written and verbal that have been broadly demonstrated through a mix of community relations, corporate communications, customer relations, public consultations, professional networking and/or public relations.
  • Detailed involvement in technical and/or professional writing and editing.
  • Detailed involvement managing engineering projects.
  • Strong networking and relationship management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully work within a team environment and apply functional leadership skills. Must have demonstrated ability to work independently in a management capacity.

This role offers a competitive compensation and benefits program including a salary of $119,000-$133,000. For contract employees on this length of contract, we offer:

  • 8% additional pay in lieu of benefits.
  • 15 vacation days per annum (pro-rated based on the length of contract).
  • A flex day program offering additional paid days off (usually alternating Fridays) as a result of a compressed work week.
  • A hybrid work model with an assigned schedule confirming days worked remotely and days worked in-office. This role will be required to work in-office a minimum of 2 days per week during regular business operations.
  • The required tools, equipment, and technology for employees to work remotely are provided.
  • Free parking at the office. Transit reimbursement is offered to employees who take transit to work; we are centrally located near bus and Skytrain stops.
