Reporting to the Director of Aerodrome Operations & Compliance, the Manager, Aerodrome Compliance, plays a critical leadership role in ensuring regulatory compliance, and promoting sustainable practices at the airport that enhance operational safety and minimize environmental impacts. This includes managing environmental, wildlife, noise, drone operations, and safety management systems.
This role is responsible for overseeing regulatory compliance, environmental management, wildlife and noise control, and drone operations. The Manager, Aerodrome Compliance, will collaborate with various partners, including airport personnel, regulatory agencies, and community organizations to foster a safe, environmentally responsible airport environment.
This position offers the opportunity to lead compliance initiatives, advance environmental stewardship, ensure wildlife safety, and enhance passenger experience, while maintaining the airport's reputation for safety and operational excellence.
Day in The Life

- Lead, mentor, and train an operational team, ensuring they meet safety, operational, and regulatory requirements, while fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability and continuous improvement, and maintaining a high standard of accountability and performance.
- Oversee the environmental management system to promote sustainability and minimize the ecological footprint of airport operations. This includes conducting risk assessments and implementing strategies for managing wildlife, noise, and environmental impacts.
- Ensure compliance with Transport Canada regulations, safety standards, and airport policies in environmental, wildlife, drone, SMS, AVOP, and noise management.
- Liaise with internal and external partners, including Transport Canada, Nav Canada, and Industry Canada, to ensure operational coordination and regulatory compliance.
- Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for operational performance, regularly assess performance, and implement corrective actions where necessary.
- Engage with local communities and partners to promote awareness and understanding of wildlife and environmental issues related to airport operations.
- Stay updated on technological advancements in aerodrome environmental, wildlife, drone, SMS, AVOP and noise management operations.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation related to aerodrome portfolio operations, incidents, and inspections, and prepare reports for management and regulatory bodies.
- Contribute to the development and execution of departmental business plans, including budget requirements and contractor management.
- Regularly review the department’s business and resource plan to ensure continued efficiency.
- Develop and implement the Aerodrome Compliance Operations Safety Management Program.
- Collaborate with regulators, consultants, engineers, project managers, tenants, and other internal and external partners to ensure operational compliance.
You Have:
- Post secondary education with a concentration in business, safety, environmental or aviation, or related experience.
- Minimum 5 years of managerial experience, with a focus in airport operations, particularly in aerodrome or environmental compliance.
- Proven experience with budgeting and business planning.
Additional Requirements:
- Strong understanding of Transport Canada regulations, standards and airport safety protocols, with the ability to interpret regulatory documents (e.g., TP312, AOM, SMS Manual, Advisory Circulars and Nav Canada).
- Proven experience in regulatory operations and airside management.
- Ability to obtain and maintain necessary certifications including a RAIC, Class D License at CYEG, and an Industry Canada Radio License.
- Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail for ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards.
- Experience developing business plans and managing budgets and contracted services.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as required by airport operations.
- Ability to quickly analyze operational issues and make informed decisions quickly.
- Familiarity with airport operations software and mobile equipment.
- Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to mentor a diverse team.
- Ability to secure and maintain appropriate airport security clearance and acceptable criminal record check is required.
