Job description
Reporting to the Director of Forest Technology & Improvement, the Manager of Advanced Woodlands Transportation and Logistics will develop and execute on a strategy to develop the most efficient, safe, and high-performance trucking operations for the entire Woodlands Division located across NB, NS, and Maine. The Manager will build, utilize, and oversee the successful implementation of highway trucks, off-road trucks, and rail configurations to meet all monthly and annual mill demands. The Manager will create strategies and work with industrial and governmental stakeholders to drive efficiency in the truck operation through payload uprating and strategic corridors. They will also build and deliver on strategies on holding yard usage, identifying long-term proper truck configurations to meet the needs of the business. The Manager will identify technology solutions to enhance performance, such as creating the future dispatching system and configuration for our roundwood logistics team.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, logistics, business management, or related field
7-10 years of senior-level logistics or supply chain management experience required, with preference given to those with experience within forestry or another resource-based industry
Sound knowledge of trucking and rail transportation along with the demonstrated ability to optimize supply chain performance
Superior analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to facilitate and lead change with multiple stakeholders (business leaders and operators)
Must be detail-oriented, demonstrate ownership, and the ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Driven, self-starter with pragmatic thinking ability
Ability to use data science and analytics tools such as Power BI and TMW software
Responsibilities
Efficiency in Operations – Work to determine the strategy to optimize our roundwood trucking operations across Maine, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia. Deliver on a plan to optimize loaded miles, backhauls, trucking utilization, use of yards, and payloads. Identify opportunities and work with the regional leadership teams to implement solutions to these findings. Develop solutions to improve our fleet. Ensure that all trucks are fully utilized and ensure best-in-class fuel consumption practices.
Enhance Off-Road Network – Analyze and assess all off-road opportunities in New Brunswick and Maine. Determine the payback and overall value to the company. Prioritize and help oversee implementation.
Optimize Rail – Identify opportunities to use rail instead of roundwood trucks. Determine cost, feasibility, infrastructure required, and value to the company.
Implement Technology – Support the implementation of all telematics and other technology required in the trucking operation. This would include identifying, supporting, organizing, and following up on the installation and utilization of this equipment. Ensure we are fully utilizing this data to drive improvements in fuel consumption, driver behavior, and asset utilization.
Lead Change – Work with the Director and the operations to lead the change in these new strategies. Follow up and provide support and direction as required.
Work with Government Officials – Strategize win/win solutions for the government and industry through corridor analysis, reducing the number of trucks on the road, and structures requiring upgrading.
Reports and Analytics – Work with the team to determine the key reports and KPIs required for the operation’s staff to drive improvement with their contractors and company equipment. Oversee the creation and support of these reports. Ensure operational staff have the information available to manage these logistics.
