About the organisation

Methodist Social Services has been operating for more than 30 years. Their vision is to connect and empower communities. They aim to provide a central city location for programmes that develop life skills and social connection for all.

Hamilton Methodist Social Services (HMSS) currently provides classes for the disability and mental health sectors as well as a community meal, food assistance, showers, advocacy, and information for health, housing, and budgeting services. Methodist Social Services is proud to be a part of the Methodist Alliance, a formal alliance of the Methodist Missions, parishes, and community-based social services and trusts within Aotearoa.

About the role

HMSS is seeking a dynamic and driven leader who is committed to making a meaningful impact in the community. You will shape and guide HMSS services, ensuring they remain responsive to community needs while maintaining financial stability. You will:

  • Manage developmental and policy tasks in collaboration with the HMSS Board.
  • Maintain existing services and develop new initiatives that are consistent with HMSS’s philosophy.
  • Build and maintain regional, district, and parish relationships.
  • Create strong relationships with your team and the guests of HMSS with effective and understanding communication.
  • Be active in the community, establishing and maintaining new networks and partnerships.
  • Provide clear leadership for HMSS in its delivery of services to the community.
  • Manage financial viability of HMSS while complying with the Charities Commission.

About you

We are looking for a professional leader who has previous experience in social services. Our ideal candidate will bring:

  • A strong commitment to diverse cultures and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
  • Previous experience within social services and mental health industries.
  • Impressive people skills and a proven ability to work with a variety of cultures and generations.
  • Previous leadership experience, offering a servant style to bring your team along on the journey.
  • An ability to build and maintain genuine relationships with stakeholders to champion HMSS's mission.
  • An influential approach to foster change and strengthen networks for the organisation.
  • Financial acumen and commercial nous to increase the viability of HMSS.
