About this opportunity :

Cenovus is currently looking for a Mechanic Maintenance Technician for Drayton Valley, Alberta. The successful candidate must reside within the Drayton Valley area.

Reporting to the Maintenance Coordinator, the Mechanical Maintenance Technician is accountable to effectively participate as a team member by providing safe and cost-effective maintenance for all rotating mechanical equipment and piping systems for our Clearwater operational areas.

What you’ll do :

1. Must reside within the Drayton Valley, Alberta area or must be willing to relocate.
2. Experience with gas processing equipment and process, including large gas driven engines, electric motors, reciprocating and screw compression.
3. Adhere to safe work practices that comply with EH&S guidelines and Cenovus internal practices and expectations.
4. Provide mechanical maintenance in performing day-to-day maintenance activities (e.g. procedures) in compliance with all safety and regulatory requirements.
5. Participate in maintaining and troubleshooting all site-specific equipment mechanical problems to optimize operations in accordance with established standards, procedures, mechanical drawings, and codes.
6. Complete all mechanical maintenance records (e.g. work permits, and required reports) and submit for accuracy and timely reporting.
7. Identify and scope out opportunities to maximize runtime, minimize downtime and optimize processes.
8. Responsible for corrective/preventative maintenance and troubleshooting on pumps, engines, compressors, fans, motors, and gearboxes.
9. Conduct or coordinate preventative and corrective repairs on all mechanical rotating equipment and related components in plant and field facilities.
10. Actively engage in major overhauls and turnaround/shutdown activities, submit work orders/requests of potential work or opportunity work that is related to shutdown/turnaround.
11. Collaborate effectively with operations, maintenance planners, engineering teams, and leads.
12. Work with the Operations staff to provide troubleshooting expertise when required.
13. Manage third-party contractors as required.
14. Responsible to participate and continuously improve maintenance KPIs.
15. Accountable to identify problems and follow them to resolution.
16. Accountable to stay current with technological advances in specified trade(s).
17. Support all work order processes from creation to closure as per Cenovus standards.
18. Provide input to team leads and warehouse personnel regarding equipment and spare parts inventory requirements.
19. Respond to emergency situations as necessary and escalate communication of issues and their resolution as appropriate.
20. May be required to execute tasks and responsibilities not listed in this job description.

Who you are :

1. Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
2. Dual ticket certification for Millwright and Heavy-Duty Mechanic would be considered an asset.
3. Experienced and certified in Vibration Analysis would be considered an asset.
4. Solid experience in negotiating complex solutions from conflicting priorities.
5. 5 plus years of experience preferably in the Oil and Gas industry.
6. Self-motivated individual who enjoys working in a fast-paced team-oriented environment.
7. Ability to demonstrate a commitment to team objectives relating to safety, the environment, and productivity.
8. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently are required.
9. Well-developed and proven mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills on stationary and rotary equipment.
10. Proficiency in CMMS software (i.e., SAP) and Microsoft programs.
11. First Aid, TDG, WHMIS, and H2S Alive certifications are required.
12. Valid class 5 driver’s license is required.

This is a safety-sensitive position and is subject to the relevant requirements of Cenovus’s Alcohol and Drug Policy which includes pre-assignment testing. As this position has been identified as safety sensitive, employment of a final candidate selected for this position will be conditional upon successful completion of required pre-employment medical and alcohol/drug assessments.

For this position, you will be required to maintain a Class 5 driver's license, a satisfactory driving record, and adhere to the appropriate Company policies and guidelines. A driver's abstract will be one of the background checks requested in the pre-employment screening for the final candidate.
