Job description

As the Maintenance Technician, this role will consist primarily of performing repairs and maintenance to the building and operational equipment.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Assist and monitor trades and contractors;
  • General building maintenance such as replacing light bulbs, ceiling tiles, and painting;
  • General preparation; equipment inspection, maintenance, and repair;
  • General grounds keeping, plumbing, and carpentry work;
  • Keep all maintenance logbook and service records up to date;
  • Maintain adequate stock of equipment parts;
  • Must be available as needed for emergency call-outs;
  • Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality;
  • Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;
  • Local delivery and pick up as needed;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong mechanical aptitude;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Strong command of the English language;
  • Strong interpersonal skills;
  • Excellent problem-solving skills;
  • Ability to work under general supervision;
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines;

Required Qualifications

  • Grade 12 diploma;
  • Valid Provincial Class 5 drivers license with clean driving history (abstracts required);
  • Some experience in general building repairs and operations is preferred;
  • Experience working with plumbing, carpentry, drywall, and/or painting will be an asset;
  • Experience working with sample prep equipment is an asset;
  • Forklift certificate or experience will be considered an asset (on-site certification will be required).

Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds;
  • Extensive walking or movement, bending, kneeling, and working with machines;
  • Comfortable in environments with high noise levels.
