MAINTENANCE HELPER

Job role: Maintenance Helper-Temporary (8am-4pm)

Southbridge, the owner and operator of several long-term care homes and retirement communities across Southwestern Ontario, is currently seeking a Maintenance Supervisor to join their long-term care home in Scarborough, ON.

Reporting to the Environmental Services Manager, this role is responsible for performing general routine maintenance, and servicing operations throughout the home, keeping our home environment safe for residents and staff alike!

Responsibilities

1. Follow the home’s Preventive Maintenance Program as well as the Demand Maintenance Program.
2. Regularly perform the various tasks described in the programs.
3. Regularly check completed maintenance logs in each department/home area of the home.
4. Complete repairs as necessary including but not limited to: painting, wall repair, small leaks, installation of toilets, sinks, tiling, doors, replacing light fixtures, and installing blinds.
5. Check the operation of the mechanical equipment.
6. Inspect Life Safety equipment and systems.
7. Ensure safe storage of maintenance equipment.
8. Complete regular maintenance reports.
9. Complete pre-startup assessments on new equipment as applicable.
10. Coordinate annual preventive maintenance checks by contractors; perform other duties as required.
11. Must be available for call-ins on short notice.
12. Relieve and support the Manager of the department when needed.
13. Perform everything pertaining to maintenance including heavy-duty related work.

The ideal candidate for this role will have the following:

1. High School Diploma; a college-level trade certificate is an asset.
2. Two or more years of supervisory experience within long-term care or a similar role would be considered an asset.
3. Experience managing employees in a unionized environment is considered an asset.
4. Must have mechanical aptitude and be able to read and write the English language.
5. Experience in electrical, plumbing, patchwork, and painting preferred.
6. Ability to work safely, following established safety practices and procedures.
7. Knowledgeable about WHMIS, OH & S.
8. A returned vulnerable sector check within 6 months of the start date is required.
