For this exciting position, we are specifically targeting students who have a background in Mechanical Engineering and an interest in gaining hands-on experience working within an industrial environment. If you are not currently located in the area of this co-op position, you must be willing to either commute or relocate to the surrounding area for the entire duration of the co-op term. You must also currently be a student enrolled in a Canadian post-secondary institution and will be enrolled throughout the duration of the co-op term (you will also be returning back to the post-secondary institution once the co-op term is completed). Proof of a valid work permit will also be required, if applicable.

Trail Operations is one of the world’s largest fully integrated lead-zinc smelting and refining complexes. This site has over 26 different operating plants and processes concentrates and other materials from around the world to produce more than 290,000 tpy of refined zinc and 70,000 tpy of refined lead.

Salary Range: $4,742 - $6,000 / Month

Salary is commensurate with the number of academic semesters and prior co-op experiences completed.

Responsibilities:
  1. Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to, and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  2. Opportunity to assist in project management and the coordination of maintenance projects in a processing plant; responsible for organizing, scheduling, and monitoring the status of maintenance projects
  3. Monitor project budgets and identify inefficiencies and offer cost-effective solutions
  4. Collaborate with the engineering, operations, and maintenance teams to produce detailed designs for mechanical projects on site, such as upgrades to process equipment or new equipment installations
  5. Coordinate the plan and schedule for maintenance and shutdown work
  6. Support operations and work with skilled trades to troubleshoot equipment failures and repair scopes of work
  7. Develop and evaluate innovative ideas and technologies to help improve the way we do business

Qualifications:
  1. Working towards an Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering
  2. A valid Class 5 driver's license or equivalent is required; access to a vehicle is strongly preferred
  3. Comfortable following a clean-shaven policy and breathing through a full face respirator
  4. Comfortable with confined spaces
  5. Comfortable working in a multi-faceted industrial work environment with a range of engineering, technical, trade, and operational personnel
  6. Motivated self-starter with the ability to manage numerous projects simultaneously
  7. Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with a capability to communicate complex ideas to all levels
  8. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and a solid understanding of 2D/3D CAD software is an asset.
