Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Coordinator will be responsible for the administration, compliance, troubleshooting, and technical support of various building systems, including fire alarm systems, life safety systems, elevator systems, emergency call systems, security systems, and low voltage electrical systems. The Maintenance Coordinator will play a key role in maintaining the safety and operational reliability of our facilities, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations. This role will also support the safety and security of our residents and staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage administrative processes for weekly, monthly, and yearly inspections on fire alarm systems, life safety systems, elevators, call systems, security systems, and GEF Health & Safety requirements.
  • Administer and manage compliance activities such as electrical permits, fire alarm testing, life safety testing, elevator testing, and emergency system reporting.
  • Maintain records for building systems in compliance with governing bodies in YARDI and RIM folder.
  • Create and maintain a compliance dashboard for all GEF buildings, tracking inspection dates, findings, and recommendations for upgrades or repairs.
  • Provide support for troubleshooting fire alarm, life safety, elevator, call, and security systems.
  • Work with electricians to provide mentorship and training in low voltage systems.
  • Respond to emergency service calls, ensuring timely resolution of system failures with minimal disruption to residents.
  • Facilitate and administer contracts related to fire alarm systems, security systems, elevators, snow clearing, and landscaping for GEF properties.
  • Conduct fire alarm, evacuation, and emergency system drills.
  • Provide Salto training to front-line staff and mentor Central Journeyperson Trades staff.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for building systems, generate reports, and provide regular updates to Maintenance Manager(s).
  • Ensure compliance reporting is completed on time and in accordance with GEF Health & Safety guidelines.
  • Ensure compliance with fire codes, electrical codes, and life safety regulations.
  • Participate in Health & Safety Meetings and committees, ensuring all buildings are prepared for potential risks.

Experience/Education Preference

  • Project Management Designation is preferred.
  • Trades Certification in HVAC, Electrical, Life Safety Systems is preferred. (Journeyperson Trades or equivalent).
  • WHMIS, First Aid, and OH&S certification preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of life safety systems, fire alarm systems, suppression systems, access control, nurse call, and security systems.
  • Experience in troubleshooting, programming, and maintaining fire panels (e.g., Edwards, Simplex, Notifier).
  • Proficiency in YARDI and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with Alberta building infrastructure management and City of Edmonton permit processes.
  • Experience with contract management documentation, including CCDC contracts.

Other Requirements

  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and perform repetitive motion tasks.
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a larger team.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to interact with residents, staff, contractors, and regulatory bodies.
  • Ability to diagnose and solve practical problems, particularly in emergency situations.

Details: Full Time, Days, 37.50 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM

Pay Scale: Commensurate with education and experience.
