Position SummaryThe Machining Supervisor is responsible for leading, motivating, and coaching a team of Machining Operators to ensure efficient and high-quality production within the Wood Machining department. This role involves overseeing daily operations, troubleshooting issues, ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards, and driving continuous improvement. The Supervisor will utilize their expertise in CNC, Edge banding, and/or Panel Saw operations to optimize production schedules and train team members. They will be responsible for performing routine and varied tasks in alignment with production processes within the wood machining department and will be required to support their job functions while cross-training on positions as required and will be required to comply with SOPs and quality standards of products while adhering to Health & Safety and BRC policies on a consistent basis.
Responsibilities- Plan and establish daily work schedules, assignments, and production sequences to meet daily production targets.
- Monitor machinery production lines and troubleshoot issues in software and hardware.
- Manage production output as per the plan of the Production Planner and Production Manager; Collaborates effectively with team members to ensure productivity, efficiency, and adherence to daily and weekly production schedules.
- Monitor productivity throughout the shift and adjust tasks, timing, and equipment setups to meet production specifications.
- Prepare and maintain accurate production reports.
- Manage Workforce Efficiency ($/Mh) and monitor overtime hours.
- Expertly perform regular woodworking machining duties, including setting up, programming, and operating CNC primarily, and should the position require, completing the same for Edge banding, and Panel Saw equipment.
- Follows work order procedures while ensuring safe operating practices are met.
- Ultimately responsible for the quality output of the machining department.
- Maintains production quality based on companies' criteria.
- Understand and read drawings, sketches, BOM, and perform dimensional inspections.
- Follows standard daily and preventative maintenance procedures such as cleaning and lubricating equipment, replacing parts and tooling as necessary.
- Monitors the machinery production lines, troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and report product and equipment malfunctions to the Production Manager.
- Independently find solutions for departmental problems that arise in a timely manner communicate/report challenges to the Production Manager.
- Understand and edit CNC programs primarily and supports Edgebanding/Panel Saw programs per management approvals received.
- Maintains good housekeeping practices.
- Work in cooperation with the Quality department to conduct root-cause analysis and improve overall quality; Prioritizes quality control, ensuring parts meet defined standards, collecting necessary components for each order, and inspecting pieces for defects.
- Monitor and ensure adherence to health and safety regulations, guidelines, and company policies.
- Maintain compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), WSIB protocols, and other relevant regulations.
- Ensure all team members are working safely and using appropriate PPE.
- Maintain a clean and well-organized work area and train employees to do so as well. Foster positive working relationships within the department and BRC through respect, courtesy, and effective communication.
- Works overtime as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned from time to time at the discretion of management.

- A minimum of three (3) years of Supervisory experience and CNC Machine Operating experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in a furniture or store fixture environment.
- Good understanding and knowledge of CNC and editing its programs preferably, and knowledge and experience with Edgebanding and Panel Saw Programs is considered an asset.
- Good understanding of good product quality and production methods/ manufacturing practices.
- Assets to have:
- Diploma or certificate courses in CNC/ Edgebanding/ Panel Saw machining.
- Associate degree in machine operation, carpentry, or other woodworking fields.
- Experience/ knowledge of CNC Programming, Edgebanding Programming, and/or Panel Saw Programming concepts.
- Experience using a Point-to-Point Router.
- A minimum of three (3) years of production experience within BRC or relevant experience working in a similar environment and position.
- Knowledge of the manufacturing operations and techniques including Lean, 5S. Ideally, knowledgeable of an ERP system and aware how MRP functions and its relation to scheduling.
- Proficient with computer applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel. Ideally, knowledgeable of ERP/Database programs.
- Proven ability to focus on the Customer and act with the Customer in mind; value importance of providing high-quality products on a timely basis.
- Ability to achieve results and perform work with energy and drive.
- Knowledge of warehouse safety regulations and practices in a warehouse setting to ensure a safe and secure working environment.
- Proficiency in use of hand tools. Ability to operate warehouse equipment, such as Forklifts, Pallet jacks, and Hand trucks. Asset: Valid Forklift License.
- Ability to lift materials up to 50 pounds and to carry, move, manipulate and/or position them and to move, bend, twist or maintain awkward positions while performing work.
- Good hand and eye co-ordination and muscular control sufficient to operate tools or equipment and to see closely and/or listen intently in order to achieve very detailed results and/or detect flaws or errors.
- Ability to perform under pressure and work in a fast-paced environment.
