Land acknowledgement:

Oak Valley Health honours the traditional territory of the closest Indigenous communities, the Chippewas (chi-puh-waas) of Georgina Island and the Mississaugas of Scugog Island. The Haudenosaunee (Ho-de-no-shau-nee) and Anishinaabe (Ah-nish-in-ah-beh) have lived, worked and existed on this land from time immemorial. This land is covered by Treaty 13 signed with the Mississaugas of the Credit, and the Williams Treaty signed with many Mississauga and Chippewa bands.

Who you are:

  • You encompass Oak Valley Health’s core values and live the words of respect, trust, commitment, compassion and courage.
  • You are a patient and/or client centered individual who performs at an exemplary standard.
  • You are a team player with excellent communication, critical thinking and prioritization skills.

Markham Stouffville Hospital is a growing community hospital just north of the Greater Toronto Area, and is offering a position to cover a 1.0 AFP funded maternity leave Hematology locum starting in mid March 2025 (later start date negotiable).

Responsibilities include coverage of a malignant hematology practice while also taking part in benign hematology work within our hospital clinic. You would be joining our existing group of three hematologists, five medical oncologists, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, a drug navigator, social workers and dieticians. The clinic is very well supported and no overhead is expected.

We also have a dedicated outpatient palliative care clinic and community palliative care team that assists with patient care. Interdisciplinary care is shared with tertiary care facilities, in addition to regional cancer centers offering radiation. Bone marrow biopsies and treatments such as IV iron and phlebotomies are all coordinated in our Medical Day Unit. Multidisciplinary tumour boards are held biweekly in conjunction with Southlake Regional Care Centre. We are also a proud member of the Princess Margaret Cancer Care Network, with streamlined access to consultations and collaborative care with the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.

Call responsibility is expected to be shared equally within the Hematology division. Call duties would include seeing new hematology referrals for patients admitted to hospital or the emergency department. Support is provided to patients admitted to Uxbridge Hospital via consultations/telephone support. There is no requirement for Internal Medicine call as this responsibility is assumed by a strong General Internal Medicine division. There is no requirement for MRP work.

Markham Stouffville Hospital is a collegial environment, with a newly renovated facility including a new cancer clinic, diagnostic imaging center, and medical, surgical and palliative care wards. We work with a group of highly motivated and skilled sub-specialists, surgeons, radiologists, pathologists, nurses, and allied health care teams. The in-patient 224 bed hospital and out-patient services currently serve the communities of Markham Stouffville, Uxbridge and surrounding area of over 400,000 residents. It is a fantastic place to work!
