Tasks

1. Collect medical information from patients, family members, or other medical professionals
2. Examine patients' health condition to identify diseases and injuries
3. Order laboratory tests, X-rays and other diagnostic procedures to determine the most appropriate medical treatment
4. Consult with other medical practitioners to evaluate patients' physical and mental health
5. Prescribe and administer medications and treatments
6. Participate on institutional committees
7. Perform and assist in routine surgery
8. Inoculate and vaccinate patients to prevent and treat diseases
9. Participate in health care policy and planning
10. Advise patients on health care
11. Hire and train staff
12. Be the patient advocate
13. Co-ordinate or manage primary patient care
14. Provide counselling and support to patients and their families on a wide range of health and lifestyle issues
