AHS has a creative leadership opportunity for a Linen and Environmental Services (LES) Supervisor. This is an excellent position for an individual with supervisory experience, preferably in a healthcare setting, and training in Health Care or Business Administration. The LES Supervisor supports the Manager with the planning and daily operation of the Environmental Services department. Linen and Environmental Services are responsible for the maintenance of AHS hospitals’ environmental cleaning, waste stream management functions, and providing clean linens to patients. These departments ensure hospitals and healthcare facilities are properly cleaned, sanitized, and maintained to provide a healthy environment for everyone. The successful applicant possesses strong communication, mentorship and relationship-building skills, and is passionate about providing a safe and healthy workplace environment. In collaboration with other departments regarding infection control practices, you will ensure all protocols, cleaning and frequency standards are adhered to in the management of outbreaks and isolation cases. You are the leader staff, patients, and patient family members rely upon to provide a safe environment. You are dependable and have a high respect for safety. In addition to completing quality audits to promote optimum cleanliness of the hospital, the LES Supervisor oversees the coordination of staff schedules, facilitation of department meetings, and attendance/performance management. Description:

The LES Supervisor monitors established budgets, tracks key performance targets, identifies efficiencies, and promotes optimal use of resources while making recommendations on current and future service adjustments to staff, budget, and service delivery models. The supervisor has direct responsibility for all patient discharge, isolation, and equipment cleaning and ensures the collection of general, bio-medical, chemical and recycling waste streams. This position develops and maintains excellent working relationships with department staff, Supervisors, and site leadership to ensure customer needs are met and services are provided in compliance with AHS and department policies, procedures, and standards. The LES Supervisor must have a visible presence throughout the facility, as this position is the first point of contact and must respond to and resolve all service-related concerns. Physical aspects of this position include extended periods of time walking and standing. The successful applicant ensures all new staff are properly orientated and trained as per department education and standards, and approves. In addition, the supervisor is responsible for approving payroll, analyzing the financial status of the department, providing recommendations to maintain a balanced budget, and ensuring appropriate quality and safety measures are in place and compatible with IPC and OHS industry and provincial standards and completes all probationary and annual performance reviews. The LES Supervisor meets regularly with clinical customers to maintain sound relationships, review performance, and manage escalated issues. Other accountabilities include participating in the recruitment and hiring of employees, performance management and recommendations for termination if applicable. The Supervisor ensures the Manager/Director is informed of all significant events and/or activities.

Required Qualifications:

Diploma or Degree in Health Care or Business Administration. 1-year of leadership experience in a large institution. Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor others. Proficient use of computer software applications such as Microsoft Office, Excel, and Outlook required. Demonstrated leadership abilities, with strong written and oral communication skills, are essential. To enable applicants to perform their duties safely, they must demonstrate the ability to read, write, speak, understand, and follow written and oral directions in English. Must be dependable, flexible/adaptable, thorough, and be able to work with minimal supervision. A combination of education, training and relevant experience may be considered.

Additional Required Qualifications:

All new employees will be required to attend a 2-day Environmental Services Orientation and a 1-day AHS Orientation. Completion of additional online courses are required as per department and AHS standards. Valid criminal record check obtained within the last three months, and a valid work permit/visa (if applicable).

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in Infection Control and Workplace Health & Safety is preferred. 3 years’ supervisory experience and demonstrated knowledge of Environmental Services practices. Experience in a healthcare setting.
