Licensed Practical Nurse Permanent, Casual
As a member of the Kamloops Hospice team, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), preferably with palliative experience, provides direct care and support to patients and families. The LPN works as a key member of the clinical team in providing excellence in palliative care in accordance with established policies, procedures and standards.

Hours of Employment: Days, nights and weekends, 12-hour shifts – A minimum of two shifts per month is required.
Duties
- Collaboration with other team members to provide high quality patient-centered hospice/palliative care for patients and their families.
- Cooperatively participating with the patient, family and the Hospice team to develop and implement patient and family plan of care.
- Provides ongoing patient assessment and evaluation of physical, psychosocial and spiritual needs.
- Supervising Health Care Assistants.
- Administration of medications, managing basic to complex wounds, catheter insertion and managing feeding tubes, ostomies and other medically provided devices at times.
- Consulting and collaborating with other health care professionals and participating in patient review rounds with multidisciplinary team members.
- Active role in upkeep of Hospice Home – e.g. Laundry, meal preparation, cleaning.
- Documenting relevant information in a timely and accurate manner.
- Being a positive role model for other staff, patients and families.
- Actively participating in direct patient care and housekeeping duties alongside other members of the care team.
- Other related duties as assigned by the Clinical Leads.
Requirements
- Active BCCNM registration or able to receive same.
- Current knowledge of best practice requirements for basic nursing tasks and skills, including but not limited to medication administration, foley catheters, prevention and maintenance of pressure and other wounds.
- Knowledge about and committed to the Hospice philosophy of care.
- Willingness to participate in educational advancement within the palliative care field.
- Availability to actively participate in team meetings and quality improvement activities.
- Awareness of own strengths, limitations and biases in emotionally sensitive situations, and able to react calmly and effectively.
- Flexible, able to work in a new and changing environment, and to promote progressive and innovative thinking as well as team based patient centered care.
- Have knowledge of and be sensitive to religious, ethnic, cultural and personal diversity.
- Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills, and the ability to deal with people in crisis in a calm, mature and non-judgemental manner.
- Able to maintain the feeling of peace and comfort in the Hospice Home.
- Preference will be given to individuals with hospice/palliative care experience.
