Mental Health impacts every person and every part of our lives. In any given year, 1 in 5 people experience a mental health problem or illness in Canada. As a Licensed Practical Nurse with Recovery Alberta at Alberta Hospital Edmonton, you will be working on Unit 10-1A in a multi-disciplinary team on the front line of care with 30 patients. This unit is part of the Adult Acute Services portfolio of the Edmonton Zone Addiction and Mental Health program. Unit 10-1A at Alberta Hospital Edmonton is a dynamic and fast-paced adult acute mental health unit dedicated to best practice patient and family-centered care. Care is delivered by an interdisciplinary collaborative care team in accordance with the CoACT model of care, the Edmonton zone Addiction & Mental Health program’s Principles of Care, and AHS values. As a member of the collaborative, interdisciplinary team, the LPN is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care and practices to full scope as defined by the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. Description:
As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision-making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level, and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family-centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:
Computer skills and education/experience with Connect Care. Demonstrated interpersonal, organizational, and assessment skills. Demonstrated ability to maintain effective working relationships with the interdisciplinary team. Demonstrated ability to work independently while maintaining collaboration with team members. Demonstrated ability to adapt quickly to changing and fluctuating workloads and work conditions. Demonstrated accountability, critical thinking, interpersonal, and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to respond to new needs in the role as they arise, within initiative and self-directedness.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working within the CoACT framework an asset. Experience working with persons with significant mental illness and/or addictions an asset and preferred. Minimum 1-2 years of experience in an adult acute practice setting. Non-violent crisis intervention training. Sound observation and strong verbal communication skills. Positive attitude and the ability to work effectively in an Acute Psychiatry setting. English language proficiency required. Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Ability to adapt quickly to changes in daily schedule and patient needs. Working knowledge of patient and family-centered care principles. Effective and hard worker with a focus on caring for and engaging with patients.
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
Previous work experience in Addiction & Mental Health. Working knowledge of trauma-informed care. Working knowledge of harm reduction model and the stages of change.
