This application is for casual Library Technician opportunities for the 2024/2025 school year.

Please Note

You may also be considered for temporary and/or permanent opportunities as they arise throughout the year. The casual Library Technician position is only applicable at Secondary Schools at YRDSB.

Salary

$23.10 per hour (casual rate)
$30.59 per hour (temporary Rate Effective September 1, 2024)

Casual Positions

On call, as-needed basis to cover absences of permanent employees ranging from daily occurrences up to 30 consecutive working days.

Temporary Positions

This is a position that is available for a period in excess of 30 consecutive working days to replace a permanent employee who is absent on an approved leave of absence (e.g. pregnancy, parental, educational or medical leave).

Permanent Positions

These are full-time positions (35 hours per week).

We are actively seeking individuals who are flexible and energetic team players to support students, staff, administration and the community in an educational environment.

Responsibilities

This position is responsible for developing, organizing and maintaining a user-oriented collection of Library/Resource Centre material under the direction of a Teacher Librarian and/or other resource staff in compliance with Board policies and procedures.

  1. To monitor and maintain a Card Catalogue/Automated Catalogue File of print and non-print material in accordance with Anglo American Cataloguing Rules.
  2. To maintain, process and circulate print and non-print materials.
  3. To provide reference service to students and staff, including preparation of materials for classes and bibliographies as necessary.
  4. To assist in the acquisition, disposition and inventory of library materials.
  5. To assist with clerical and typing functions of the library/resource centre including maintenance of budget and petty cash records.
  6. To perform tasks related to library record keeping and clerical functions.
  7. To work as an active member of the school and/or Learning Resource teams.
  8. To attend meetings as required.
  9. To attend professional development sessions/training as required.

Education, Experience, And Qualifications

Secondary School Graduation Diploma with two years of post-secondary education in library information systems is required.

Minimum One Year Related Experience Is Required.

An excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and current Board approved/implemented software is required.

Proficient verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills are required.

Additional Information:

Employees are expected to work at least 30 days within the current school year to remain on the casual clerical list. Please note that hours of operation in our schools could start as early as 7:30 a.m. and end as late as 5:00 p.m.

The Board highly recommends that employees accept as many shifts as possible throughout the year to encourage advancement within the Board.
