Job description

We are looking for an outgoing, service-oriented Library Clerk to join our team, get involved in our community, and support our strategic priorities. The Espanola Public Library serves the town of Espanola and three contracting areas, with a total population of approximately 6,570.

This is a permanent part-time position, working approximately 21 hours per week. The Library Clerk will manage a diverse set of responsibilities, supporting and providing library services to the community. The ideal candidate will be professional, flexible, innovative, and possess excellent relationship skills. This position requires proficiency in customer service, library functions, and technology.

Responsibilities:

  1. Provide customer service in-person, over the phone, and electronically.
  2. Assist with library programming, including preparation and delivery.
  3. Demonstrate a strong knowledge of library clerical procedures and practices.
  4. Experience using general office equipment such as computers, printers, photocopiers, fax machines, scanners, mobile devices, and library software.
  5. Ensure accuracy in data entry for statistics, patron information, and catalogue information.
  6. Respond to reference questions, provide reader’s advisory service, and address account inquiries.
  7. Flexibility, adaptability and ability to multitask are essential.
  8. Strong attention to detail.
  9. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and the general public.
  10. Ensure compliance with applicable legislation including, but not limited to: Employment Standards, Health and Safety Standards, Ontario Public Libraries Act, Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
  11. Perform related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  1. Strong customer service skills.
  2. Experience with integrated library systems.
  3. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  4. Proficiency with technology including: computers, mobile devices, and emerging technologies.
  5. General knowledge and understanding of online information resources and systems.
  6. Must be adaptable and effective in working independently and collaboratively.
  7. Ability to assume additional responsibilities and hours as necessary.
  8. Must have strong problem-solving skills.
  9. Embrace diversity, equity, and inclusion practices and principles in the workplace.

Qualifications:

  1. Minimum high school diploma.
  2. Library experience or education preferred.
  3. Ability and willingness to participate in ongoing professional development.
  4. Must provide a Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.

Hourly Rate:

$23.33
