Job Profile
Under The Direction Of The Administrative Coordinator Of Virtual Services, The Digital Literacy And Virtual Services (DLVS) Librarian Is Part Of a Small Team Of Specialized Staff Involved In The Research, Planning, Implementation, Promotion, And Evaluation Of Digital Literacy And Virtual Services For The Library System. The DLVS Librarians Are:

- The DLVS Librarians work collaboratively as a team and with other library staff, as well as external partners and library stakeholders, with the goal of developing responsive, equitable virtual services.
As the Digital Literacy and Virtual Services Librarian, you will:
- Develop and deliver formal, structured classes, both in-person and virtual, on a variety of topics designed to improve digital literacy and engage/excite users in the vast technological and online resources that the Library has available 24/7.
- Offer one-on-one help appointments to customers, assisting with device/app setup and troubleshooting.
- Create online tutorials, tech tips and content for promotional materials highlighting digital resources and services available to customers.
- Develop and deliver digital literacy/e-services training and support for staff, including:
- in-person and virtual training sessions for library staff on a variety of topics.
- one-on-one coaching or small group mentorship to front-line information services staff in all locations.
- self-directed staff training content such as online tutorials that promote the Digital Library services and other online resources.
- Assist in the maintenance of the Winnipeg Public Library online user experience.
- Ensure that additions, changes and deletions to WPL’s website pages are completed in a timely manner and that website content is in compliance with the City of Winnipeg Style and Writing guidelines.
- Support, advise and guide staff who are creating content in the Library’s LibGuides, LibCal, and LibAnswers FAQ pages.
- Administer back-end components of a variety of system- and cloud-based tools, including SirsiDynix Enterprise (OPAC) software, the Library’s BlueCloud Mobile app, multiple products in the Library’s LibApps (Springshare) platform and the Library’s CONTENTdm (digitization software) subscription.
- Provide technical support for the databases in the Digital Library (electronic resources collections), including troubleshooting connection issues, monitoring resources for upgrades and changes and communicating changes to staff.
- Lead working groups and participate in system-wide activities, as directed by the Admin Coordinator of Virtual Services, and assist with the ongoing operations of Virtual Services.
- Respond to customer queries on online platforms, with a focus on technical questions and troubleshooting, using a client-first philosophy and dedication to resolving problems.
- Perform other duties consistent with the classification, as required.
Your Education And Qualifications Include
- A Master of Library & Information Sciences (MLIS) degree from an institution accredited by the American Library Association (ALA). An MLIS degree (or equivalent) obtained internationally through a formally accredited institution may also be considered.
- Experience authoring, managing and maintaining web resources.
- Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, ASP or PHP is an asset.
- Working knowledge of the Drupal content management framework is an asset.
- Technical skills in email communication, social media platforms, website content management systems, as well as graphic design, publishing, and office productivity tools are an asset.
- Experience envisioning and creating training tools, presentations and learning resources that will engage users at a variety of levels.
- Understanding of the adult learning experience and how it affects training is an asset.
- Experience delivering training to peers and colleagues using a variety of methods, including both in-person and remote training/teaching tools.
- Experience mentoring and coaching both staff and customers in learning new services and technologies and accessing/navigating the digital environment.
- Thorough knowledge of mobile computing options and interfaces, including tablets, Smartphones, eInk readers and apps, as well as intermediate knowledge of basic computer operating systems and maintenance techniques.
- Demonstrated skills in problem-solving and troubleshooting technology, both hardware and software; ability to think on your feet, problem-solve in front of others, and develop multiple solutions when presented with technological problems.
- General knowledge of cloud software maintenance and administrative duties related to online library systems.
- Experience with testing, upgrading, and rolling out software in a complex organizational environment is an asset.
- Working knowledge of the Springshare suite (LibGuides, LibAnswers, LibCal and LibWizard) is an asset.
- Experience with SirsiDynix Enterprise or other discovery OPACs and their administration tools is an asset.
- Ability to work with customers from a wide variety of cultural, economic, social and educational backgrounds.
- Ability to communicate on behalf of the City of Winnipeg in an expected and consistent manner.
- Strong attention to detail with strong knowledge of grammar and spelling; understanding of tone and nuance and how to communicate effectively in writing on a variety of platforms.
- Good leadership, planning and organizational skills.
- Ability to work under stressful conditions and meet frequent, multiple, and conflicting deadlines.
- Experience planning, organizing, or participating in technology-related projects is an asset.
- Strong and effective report-writing skills, including data analysis using Excel spreadsheets or other data analysis tools and report-authoring using Microsoft Word.
- Experience with Microsoft Office 365 software systems and tools is an asset.
- Good customer service, public relations and conflict resolution skills - tact, flexibility and the ability resolve challenging situations.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization, external contacts and the public, in accordance with the Respectful Workplace Policy.
