Job Summary

This role manages a range of legal, compliance, and administrative duties supporting Quebec and Eastern Canada.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Providing support to internal teams (i.e. compliance, complaints, and violence or harassment allegations)
  • Supporting and advising management on various legal and contractual concerns and issues
  • Contributing to regional projects that influence strategies, policies, and procedures
  • Building strong and positive relationships at all levels of the company to support business needs
  • Coaching internal stakeholders on regulatory and compliance matters and policies and procedures
  • Ensuring legal compliance in all aspects of business operations, including contracts, policies & processes aligned with provincial requirements
  • Coordinating legal issues to comply with government and company policies & regulations
  • Leading investigations to discover facts and law of cases to determine causes of action and prepare cases accordingly
  • Dispute resolution and liaison between disputing parties
  • Interacting regularly with external lawyers regarding legal issues and managing communication and coordination of files
  • Filing pleadings with court clerk
  • Maintaining all document and court files
  • Attending small claims court and mediation conferences on behalf of the company
  • Serving as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) on CNESST policies and procedures, facilitating compliance issues or concerns

Parity Specialist - (Preferred)

  • Single point of contact and relationship management of all aspects of the Parity Committee in Montreal and Quebec
  • Ensuring compliance to CPEEP and reporting submission within timelines
  • Representing the company in Parity Committee meetings with the Senior leadership team
  • Leading investigations into claims and managing and resolving claims brought against the company by CPEEP inspectors
  • Coordinating and preparing files with company lawyer or external counsel regarding CPEEP claims and civil or penal lawsuits

Upkeep of Regulatory and Legislative Changes

  • Ensuring best practices are followed by staying current with labour and employment legislations and industry developments
  • Informing the company of relevant changes (i.e. tax, labor standards, health and safety legislation) and coordinating with internal departments to ensure changes are implemented in operational processes
  • Leading change management initiatives to plan, implement, and communicate new or updated regulations or legislation within the company

Education/Experience

Post-secondary education (diploma or degree) in Legal or a related field preferred.
