Leadership Program, Camp Counsellor (2)

(Temporary Full Time; 40 hours/week; June 23 – August 30, 2025)

The Town of Wasaga Beach is seeking a creative, energetic and self-motivated leader to fulfill the duties and responsibilities of Leadership Program Camp Counsellor.

General Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Recreation Programmer, the Leadership Program Camp Counsellor will work as part of a team responsible for the creation, implementation and delivery of a leadership curriculum and programming for campers aged 11 – 16 years. Leadership Program Counsellors will engage with participants in a variety of recreation programs, developing leadership curriculum and meaningful sessions designed to enlighten and prepare youth with the skills they need to become successful leaders. The successful candidate(s) will be required to communicate effectively with program participants, parents, the community, and town staff.

Qualifications:

  1. Minimum age 18;
  2. In process of obtaining: Post-secondary training in recreation, leadership, social services, child and youth work, concurrent education or related field;
  3. Formal leadership training resulting in a certificate, considered an asset;
  4. Demonstrated leadership experience through work, volunteer, or education required;
  5. Experience working with children who may have specific activity or participation strategies, familiarity with adaptive programming and inclusive recreation;
  6. Previous related job experience working with youth 11 – 16 years of age;
  7. Coaching experience in sport and certifications through NCCP or other sport-specific accreditation including High Five, considered an asset;
  8. Experience facilitating children’s activities, such as sports, drama, crafts, and musical programs, events or tournaments considered an asset;
  9. Strong interpersonal and effective presentation, written and verbal communication skills required;
  10. Ability to provide exceptional customer service and promote Town of Wasaga Beach recreation programs;
  11. Effective problem-solving skills required;
  12. An acceptable and current Vulnerable Sector Criminal Reference check is required;
  13. Standard First Aid CPR – C with AED certification required;
  14. General knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act;
  15. Ability to work in inclement weather conditions;
  16. Must be able to attend SCRA training on May 31, 2025.

Rate of Pay Range: $21.71 to $23.48 per hour
