This position is responsible for providing leadership and project management to all Engineering Groups as they proceed through the NFI Pre-Production and/or Build Processes. The position’s goal is to ensure that the engineering deliverables are delivered on-time and meet and/or exceed customer requirements & expectations at all points in the product life-cycle. Thus, leadership & support continues in Service.

WHAT YOU WILL DO :

  1. When assigned to a specific contract, work with the customer, Bids, CPM and VAE to fully understand the specification and key requirements. Review and assess previous SWAT and service issues to prevent repeat failures. Identify and mitigate risk in the products design or process.
  2. Oversee the development and execution of project deliverables and timing. Proactively manage tasks and testing identified on the critical path and/or MRA process (refer to Manuf. Readiness Assessment Engineering checklist) for the project(s) in question.
  3. Using ePlanner & SharePoint, oversee, assign and may directly manage technical issues identified throughout design & test within the NFI Pre-Production Process, during production and while in Service. Ensure successful closure to meet or exceed the customer spec while meeting timing.
  4. Ship buses on time from all production facilities.
  5. Maximize MDBF in service (Mean Distance Between Failures).
  6. Lead System Integration Reviews, Virtual Bus reviews and FMEAs with Engineering, Production, Service & Vendors.
  7. Oversee signoff of requirements, vendor approvals, testing and support customer configuration audits with CPM & VAE.
  8. Participate in Code 6 / COPQ Reviews.
  9. Work with the Launch Managers and LCMs as/if required and/or the production facility to expedite problem solving and subsequent engineering releases.
  10. Work with Service Manager / RPSM to expedite problem solving and subsequent engineering releases related to the Pilot Buses (and at a later point the initial Production buses).
  11. Using A3 formats, report status weekly to Engineering and Management. Focus on top issues, roadblocks & KPIs (Hours, % BoM released, FTQ, SWAT, FSARs as required).
  12. Facilitate communication between Engineering and the users of engineering information. Act as designated Engineering liaison – facilitate cross-functional communications as required. Ensure success of those downstream by optimizing Engineering output. For example, Long Lead items, tooling needs and suggested quality standards clearly identified in advance.
  13. When assigned employees, coach, support and motivate employees of the assigned technical section to ensure completion of assigned tasks in order to meet Corporate expectations and objectives (MBOs). Complete EPRs as required.

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL :

  1. Bachelor’s degree in engineering or post-secondary Engineering education.
  2. 5+ years of experience in leadership and project management within a related field or job function.
  3. Knowledge of Engineering Design and Bills of Materials.
  4. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  5. Proven ability in data-driven problem-solving with a keen focus on detail.
