Building and repairing homes throughout the Greater Hamilton Area, Habitat for Humanity Hamilton is looking for a hands-on team member to join our growing organization. This individual will play a key role in the planning and delivery of our RePair Program.
Overview
The Lead Hand – RePair Renovate works within the Building Services Department and provides support to both the Director of Building Services and the RePair Program Coordinator. Operating primarily in a field capacity, the Lead Hand – RePair Renovate participates in the planning and front-line delivery of our RePair Renovate social enterprise, helps to maintain our warehouse, and works to strengthen relationships with our volunteers, subtrades, construction partners, and the community at large.
Key Responsibilities
- In collaboration with the Director of Building Services and/or RePair Program Coordinator, monitor and respond to requests for service from homeowners.
- Schedule and conduct site inspections with homeowners and accurately record the required scope of work.
- Assist the Director of Building Services and/or RePair Program Coordinator with preparation of material take-offs, work schedules, and estimates, including collection of subtrade quotes.
- In collaboration with Director of Building Services and/or RePair Program Coordinator submit building permit applications to the City of Hamilton, as required, including completing or solicitation of any required plans and drawings required of such.
- Work with the Director of Building Services and/or RePair Program Coordinator to finalize contracts and schedule work with homeowners.
- In collaboration with the Procurement Coordinator, assist with material acquisition, delivery, and staging, as required.
- Attend to job sites, either alone or with other team members, and complete the required repairs in accord with contract scope, timelines, and budgets.
- In collaboration with RePair Program Coordinator, arrange and complete PDI inspections with homeowners and remedy any defects noted.
- Clean-up and demobilize job sites upon project completion, dispose of waste, and ensure that any surplus materials and all tools are promptly returned to and properly stored at the warehouse.
- Attend to any service calls and address defects that may arise during the warranty period.
Requirements:
- Knowledge of all aspects of residential renovation, carpentry, building repair, and property maintenance gained through a 3-year college diploma or 3-plus years of progressively responsible work experience in the construction or renovation fields.
- Familiarity with Parts 9 and 11 of the Ontario Building Code, Occupational Health and Safety Act and O. Regulation 213/91.
- Exceptional customer service, sales, and negotiation abilities.
- Highly self-motivated with excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Outgoing team player with a positive attitude and attention to detail.
- Ability to foster positive relationships with co-workers, volunteers, subtrades, build partners, and community members.
- Physically fit, able to operate construction tools and perform manual labour, including lifting and carrying heavy loads of up to 50 lbs. in inclement weather and up stairs.
- Proven time management skills and ability to meet tight project deadlines.
- Sound judgement and ability to prioritize tasks.
- Proactive organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to manage workload and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Computer literate including familiarity with MS Office products, email, and text messaging.
- Flexible, versatile, and tolerant of changing work environments and deadlines.
- Access to a reliable vehicle and a valid G class license.
- Ability to work flexible hours, as necessary.
- A desire to generate a positive social impact in the Hamilton community and ability to empathize with vulnerable populations.
- Clean police check and provision of drivers abstract upon request.
