Temporary Full-Time (4-6 months approximately)
8 shifts in two weeks as Lead Hand: 12:00pm - 8:30pm
2 shifts in two weeks as Cook: 6:30am - 2:45pm
Cook shifts are every second Saturday and Sunday
77.50 hours in two weeks, 1.0 FTE

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversees the operation of the food services department in the absence of the Manager, Food Services.
  • Understands and is able to safely operate all equipment in the Food Services area.
  • Consults with the Manager, Food Services, or Cook regarding the list of foods to be prepared the next day.
  • Compile recipes for meal planning.
  • Hauls, loads, and unloads food supplies into storeroom, refrigerators, and freezers.
  • Notifies the Manager, Food Services of inventory shortages.
  • Responsible for Resident meal service which includes preparation, portioning and assembling of foods and utensils; serving and portioning of foods in the tray assembly area in accordance with the menus, production sheets and within time schedules and correct procedure.
  • Responsible for dealing with concerns raised from the Nursing floors and will ensure the dietary needs of the Resident are met.
  • Will deal in a positive manner with anyone who requests meal service or has a question or concern.
  • May assist with the preparation of sandwich fillings, salads, nourishments and beverages.
  • Performs quality control check on temperature and presentation of food and records the information.
  • Speaks to Residents and families regarding meal satisfaction. Reports findings to the Manager, Food Services.
  • Reports to the Manager, Food Services any food wastes (i.e., food left on trays or plates).
  • Plugs in steam tables and food wagons in accordance with written procedure.
  • Strips trays, prepares tableware and utensils for dishwashing.
  • Carries out detailed written instructions to set dishwashing machine in motion. Required to feed the dishwashing machine and direct the dishwashing operation. Cleans the dishwashing machine and dishwashing area after each operation.
  • Responsible for the proper functioning of the dishwasher and dispensers and reports problems to the Manager, Food Services and Director, General Services immediately.
  • Transports and washes food carts. Operates power carts as required and assigned.
  • Washes and scours pots and pans and returns them to proper storage area. Maintains a clean work area.
  • Delivers the hot food carts to the appropriate serving area.
  • Keeps informed of the information on the diet cards to ensure proper foods are given for proper diets.
  • Cleans kitchen and dining room area, server equipment, utensils and dispensers. Strips soiled meal trays, pre-rinses dishes and cutlery and performs other related dish-utensil cleaning operations.
  • Stores clean dishes and clean flatware in appropriate areas.
  • Serves food to staff; including operation of cash register for maintenance and tallying of cash sales.
  • Attends to and assists with special catering functions occurring during shift, as required.
  • Assists the Manager, Food Services with inventory, training, placing food orders and checking items received and shortages.
  • Replaces Dietary Attendants on short notice when available.
  • Does scheduling, and inputs information into UKG.
  • Performs duties of the Manager, Food Services in his/her absence.
  • Directs and organizes work assignments for the Food Services staff.
  • Ensures Food Service employees carry out duties as assigned.
  • Assists the Manager, Food Services with scheduling relief staff and documents same.
  • Monitors performance of Dietary Attendants and provides input into performance evaluations.
  • Reports performance issues to the Manager, Food Services.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in food services is required.
  • Previous supervisory experience is required.
  • Food Safe Handling course is required.
  • Food service or related hospitality courses are required.
  • A High School diploma is an asset.
  • A friendly disposition, good interpersonal skills and good communication skills are required.

SPECIAL SKILLS:

  • Fluency of the English language is required and knowledge of the Ukrainian or other Slavic languages is an asset.
  • Individual must be physically and mentally fit to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
