Job Description
The primary role of the Lead Electrician is to lead the work of Journey level Electricians and or Apprentices and trades helpers, as well as participates in the repair, maintenance, inspection, and installation of systems and journey level projects.
General RESPONSIBILITIES
- Must be able to comprehend written and verbal instructions as required to perform his duties in a safe and efficient manner
- Must be able to follow proper procedure to ensure safety and to control equipment damage
- Ability to read/ interpret electrical drawings/ schematics
- Provide leadership to the trades electrical crew enabling them to effectively carry out assigned work and perform to the best of their potential
- Assumes primary responsibility for the repair, maintenance, renovation and new installation of fixtures, electrical apparatus, cable tray/ strut, wiring, similar electric elements
- Performs skilled and non-skilled tasks related to trades electrical work
- Examines facilities on a regular basis for purposes of preventative maintenance
- Ensures that the work of trades electricians and related staff is carried out in an efficient and productive manner and resolves any work-related problems as they arise

Health And Safety
- Having the authority and responsibility to maintain a safe and efficient working environment
- Following Redpath Canada Limited health and safety standards and systems, including the Five Point Safety System and the Cardinal Rules, and reporting any unsafe acts or conditions
- Responsible to ensure proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment required in the performance of the work.
- Must have knowledge of the WHMIS legislation and know how to effectively use an MSDS sheet.
- Comply with the Act and Mining Regulations that apply to the work area
Education QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Journeyman electrician’s certificate (Red Seal) and provincial license as required
- Master Electrician License would be an asset
Work Experience
- At least five (5) years’ experience as a tradesperson electrician with at least two (2) years supervisory experience is recommended.
Knowledge Required
- Ability to multi task and work effectively
- Ability to work efficiently as part of a team as well as independently
- Advanced electrical installation, troubleshooting, construction and maintenance skills.
- Ability to supervise skilled and non-skilled workers and preferably has recent formal supervisory and/or administrative management education and training
- Experience in HV cable termination and splicing would be considered an asset
- Ability to read blueprints, effectively lay out work, perform trade electrical work and possesses a general knowledge of repair work.
- Good understanding of CEC, M421, and Z462
- Able to communicate effectively (both orally and written), and able to develop and maintain good relationships with staff, and managers
- Able to problem solve by evaluating information, giving relevant considerations when making decisions, interpreting data and reacting appropriately to changing situations.
