DUTIES:
Reporting to the Deputy City Planner - Growth, this position will be responsible to review and recommend terms and conditions of landscaping and urban design requirements for development applications (i.e. site plan control, committee of adjustment, rezoning applications, subdivisions, etc.); conducts site inspections to determine conformity with landscaping, lighting, and urban design requirements established through the approval process and legal agreements; will attend the Committee of Adjustment, Development Heritage and Standing Committee and Council, as required. Will also assist and develop documents, guidelines and standards for developments; assist in the preparation and implementation of landscaping and streetscaping guidelines, policies and procedures; assists in the preparation of landscape/streetscape/urban design concepts for municipal capital projects and for illustrative purposes in the review of development applications; provides expert evidence before the Ontario Land Tribunal and other tribunals. Will perform Occupational Health & Safety duties as outlined in the Corporation’s Health and Safety Program. Will perform other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have a University degree in Landscape Architecture, or Ontario Ministry of Education equivalency and a minimum of four (4) years of progressive, responsible experience in site planning, site design, site development, landscape design, park development, or related experience;
- Must be a member with the Ontario Association Landscape Architects (OALA), or Canadian Society of Landscape Architects (CSLA), or be able to attain full membership within two (2) years of accepting the position;
- Must have the ability to travel to offsite locations in a timely and expedient manner as required. If method of travel is by vehicle, a current valid and lawful Driver's Licence is required in accordance with the Highway Traffic Act and must provide a driver’s abstract as a condition of employment.
- Must have proven ability to work in a team environment;
- Must have the ability to solve problems and meet deadlines under pressure;
- Must have excellent communications, presentation, organizational and interpersonal skills;
- Must be proficient in Windows based software including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel;
- Should have knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, its regulations and knowledge of the hazards associated with the work.
- Completion of urban design courses/projects will be considered an asset;
- Knowledge of the development review process would be considered an asset;
- The physical demands analysis associated with this job indicates a medium level of work.
