The Solid Waste Operations Branch is a branch within the Waste Management and Environmental Sustainability Department. This branch is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the City's Landfill site, which includes non-hazardous solid waste disposal, household hazardous waste receiving and disposal, leaf and yard waste disposal and composting, and solid waste collection and disposal. Responsibilities also include the operation of the scalehouse, which is the first point of contact for customers and waste entering the landfill site.
Under the supervision of the Landfill Operations Supervisor, the Landfill Operations Attendant’s primary role is to safely and efficiently operate the Waste Segregation Facility at the Environmental Centre on a daily basis. The Waste Segregation Facility is a key element of the City’s Sustainable Waste Management Strategy and the Landfill Operations Attendant plays a significant role in increasing waste diversion and enhancing the standards associated with waste management.
The Waste Segregation Facility includes designated locations for waste separation and disposal by residential and commercial customers visiting the Barrie Landfill Site. The core responsibilities include:

Location: Environmental Center, 272 Ferndale Drive North, Barrie
Hours: The normal hours of work are 40 hours per week in accordance with the Collective Agreement.
Wage: This position is within the CUPE Local 2380 Bargaining Unit with the following pay level and 2025 pay range:
