Aplin is seeking a proactive Labour Relations Specialist with a passion for fair, effective employee-employer engagement for our client! This role is ideal for an individual with hands-on labour relations experience, especially in formal proceedings, who is ready to manage complex issues in a dynamic environment. You’ll play a central role in building and maintaining positive relationships with employee associations while supporting key labour processes and collective agreements at our institution.
Key Responsibilities:
Act as a key liaison between the institution and employee associations, supporting negotiations, handling grievances, and participating actively in bargaining sessions.
Represent the institution in labour board hearings, arbitrations, and other formal proceedings.
Conduct comprehensive workplace investigations, ensuring thorough, unbiased, and transparent processes.
Provide expert guidance on contract interpretation and policy application, especially about collective agreements.
Collaborate closely with leadership to implement labour strategies and ensure alignment with the institution’s strategic objectives.
Analyze and report on key trends in labour relations, using data to drive policy adjustments and engagement initiatives.
Develop and conduct training sessions to support management and staff in understanding labour relations policies and collective agreements.
Foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement in labour relations, staying updated on industry standards, regulations, and best practices.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required; advanced training or certifications in labour relations, human resources, or a related field are preferred.
Extensive experience in labour relations with proven experience in formal proceedings, such as bargaining, arbitration, labour board hearings, or tribunal hearings.
Demonstrated track record of conducting thorough workplace investigations.
A background in the public sector or post-secondary institutions is highly valued.
Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills, with the ability to build trust and handle high-stakes discussions professionally.
Evidence of professional development, including certifications, training, or conference participation in labour relations or HR.
Capability to manage confidential and sensitive information with integrity.
Willingness to work on-site in Athabasca as needed, including extended stays during key bargaining periods; Edmonton-based candidates should be open to travel to Athabasca regularly.
