The Northern Lights Regional Health Centre’s laboratory is a 24/7 operation that provides essential laboratory services which offer the opportunity to be part of a dynamic, multi-disciplinary environment that enables you to work to your full scope of practice. Under the supervision of, and in consultation with the department Clinical supervisor or designate, the Laboratory Technologist I is responsible to perform site specific Hematology, Chemistry, Transfusion Medicine manual and automated approved laboratory procedures and related duties following established standards of practices defined by the Alberta College of Medical Laboratory Technologists (CMLTA), College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA) and Health Professions Act (HPA). In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Fort McMurray Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $12,480. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay. Relocation Assistance may be available for a Return of Service Agreement.
As a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) I, you will be responsible for the daily processing, testing, results analysis and reporting of diagnostic samples within the laboratory department. You will perform a variety of routine and specialized procedures in the processing of specimens used in diagnosis, treatment and research.
Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA).
Additional Required Qualifications:Core lab experience (Hematology, Chemistry, Transfusion Medicine) within the last 3 years. Working within a team environment, good interpersonal skills, effective time management and the ability to set priorities are necessary. Excellent communication skills both written and oral are required. Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, be adaptable and flexible within an environment of change and interruptions. Must be able to represent Laboratory Medicine in a respectful, professional, and courteous manner.
Preferred Qualifications:Experience with Dimension EXL (Seimens) or Roche Chemistry analyzer, Clinitek Status, DXH 600 (Beckman Coulter), ACL Elite Pro, Ortho Vision (Transfusion Medicine), MTS Gel System TM and Epic Beaker LIS.
