Job Summary:
RMS is looking for a laboratory technologist to conduct routine backfill testing, scientific research, and experimental development as we grow and expand our operations. The ideal candidate will be flexible with day-to-day operations to support the engineering team and their project demands, comfortable working in a metallurgical laboratory setting, and passionate about thinking outside the box.
Key Responsibilities:
- Preparing samples and handling bulk materials.
- Hands-on laboratory testing, performing various tests including but not limited to rheological assessments, dewatering applications, backfill strength assessments and pilot scale testing.
- Inputting data into Excel and preparing factual reports to fit with the priorities of the business.
- Performing routine equipment maintenance and calibrations.
- Maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
- Complying and participating in the enhancement of RMS policies, Quality Systems and Health & Safety programs.
- Assisting with any other aspects of laboratory work as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of a technician or technology diploma.
- 1 to 3 years of experience working in a laboratory setting is considered an asset (applicable co-op experience will be considered).
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or 3D modelling.
- Basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and carpentry.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a small, multicultural team comprising diverse roles and skill sets to meet project deadlines.
- Written and verbal proficiency in English.
- Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical abilities.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to lift to 30 kg and handle drums/barrels.
