The Northern Lights Regional Health Centre’s laboratory is a 24/7 operation that provides essential laboratory services which offers the opportunity to be part of a dynamic, multi-disciplinary environment. Reporting to the Laboratory Manager, the Clinical Supervisor is responsible for day-to-day leadership to ensure completion, safety and operational delivery of rural clinical lab services. You will provide direct support to the Manager, Director and Laboratory sites as appropriate; and when assigned, in the absence of management, assume responsibilities as required. In conjunction with the Manager, you will build and develop team approaches to meet APL’s mission, vision and values; ensuring to address and resolve issues as they arise which do not align with these. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Fort McMurray Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $12,480. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay. Relocation Assistance might be available for a Return of Service Agreement.

Description:

This is an On-Site position. As the Clinical Supervisor, you will be responsible and accountable for the direction, organization implementation, and evaluation of your areas of responsibility: Hematology, Transfusion Medicine, Chemistry, Microbiology and Anatomical Pathology. You will have direct leadership responsibility and make decisions as you lead, coach, mentor, facilitate, and build towards a highly functional and collaborative team. Reporting to the Laboratory Manager, a key aspect of this position is ongoing people management. This includes ensuring the efficient use of human resources in providing the most effective and efficient delivery of client/patient service and care, recruitment of in-scope staff, payroll and other administrative functions, and addressing complaints and performance issues. This includes performance appraisal, commendations and corrections, attendance awareness, privacy or other investigations as required. You will follow applicable human resource policies and apply the appropriate collective agreements providing direct support to the Site/Department Laboratory technical leaders. As the Clinical Supervisor you will support the Quality Management System implemented by Laboratory Services by contributing to accreditation related activities, as well as strategic planning and change leadership. You will perform advanced problem solving, referring to the appropriate level of clinical and technical expertise, identify trends and patterns, and implement standard practices. In this role, you will also be responsible for project management such as overseeing implementation of technology (methodologies, equipment and tests) and processes in areas of responsibility that ensures efficiency, patient care, safety, and cost control.

Required Qualifications:

Relevant undergraduate degree in a related field (healthcare profession, business, etc.) and/or Registered Medical Technologist designation with registration with the CSMLS. Equivalencies of education and experience may be considered. A minimum of 3-5 years healthcare leadership experience in a health care organization of significant size, complexity and diversity. A demonstrated clear pattern of progressive professional and personal development. Experience and knowledge of working in a clinical laboratory setting. Understanding of Payroll, e-People processing and Recruitment Management System. Epic Beaker Experience.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Proven leadership skills in team building, conflict resolution, and facilitation skills. Ability to work quickly and accurately in a fast paced and changing environment. Solution oriented with a focus on exercising sound judgement to creatively resolve issues. Effective communicator with strong organizational skills, influential skills, and client focused orientation and commitment to providing quality services. Proven ability in establishing and fostering positive relationships and partnerships with key internal and external stakeholders to achieve organizational goals. Excellent analytical and decision-making skills. Ability to plan, organize, and manage short- and long-term plans and projects and deliver customer-focused results. Ability to work independently.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience and knowledge of Acute Care and Community/Regional laboratory settings. Experience in Chemistry, Hematology, Transfusion Medicine, Anatomical Pathology, and Microbiology in the past 5 years. Experience in recruitment, conflict resolution and teambuilding. Recent continuing education demonstrating interest in a leadership position.
