Under the responsibility of the Quality Manager, the Laboratory Supervisor, in collaboration with the Microbiology Advisor, plans, organizes, and ensures the smooth operation of daily activities in the microbiological analysis laboratory.
Responsibilities
Monitor Microbiological Analysis:
Verify and approve microbiological results.
Conduct investigations and implement corrective actions if necessary.
Participate in microbiological events in emergency situations and manage all operational tasks regarding the issue.
Issue microbiological analysis certificates upon client request.
Implement Performance Indicators and Ensure Continuous Improvement:
Update and implement procedures, documents, techniques, etc.
Support projects with the corporate team and the production team.
Implement and monitor laboratory performance indicators.
Maintain Laboratory Equipment and Manage Microbiological Products:
Manage the maintenance of laboratory equipment.
Verify the proper functioning of all devices through preventive checks and handle technical issues as needed.
Ensure compliance with the equipment calibration program.
Manage the inventory of microbiological products and place orders.
Oversee the receipt of laboratory materials and waste.
Manage issues with equipment with the external supplier.
Ensure Smooth Daily Operations:
Ensure adherence to the established task schedule.
Ensure compliance with laboratory best practices.
Provide training to technicians and maintain effective communication with the team.
Report any inappropriate behavior by technicians to the Operational Quality Manager.
Ensure the availability of necessary operational materials.
Ensure Compliance with Existing Microbiological Programs:
Swabbing Program:
Monitor and update the environmental program schedule as needed.
Communicate non-conformities to the supervisor during ATP tests, allergen tests, and pre-operational inspections.
Sampling Program:
Assist with identifying and recording samples received in the laboratory’s database.
Ensure that analyses are completed for sampled products.
Prepare samples and send them to an external certified laboratory in case of non-conformity or if internal testing is not possible.
Ensure that received certificates are properly filed and related accounting documents are correctly completed.
Water Program:
Perform sampling and complete the appropriate documents for shipping.
Verify results from the external laboratory.
Ensure Compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
Ensure Compliance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP)
Assist in building a safety culture by following health, safety, and environmental standards including ergonomics, safe operating procedures, good housekeeping practices, WHMIS, and the observance of PPE requirements.

Knowledge and Skills Sought
A college or university degree in biochemistry, microbiology, or equivalent experience.
A minimum of five years of experience in a microbiological laboratory.
A minimum of one year of experience as a Supervisor or Team Lead.
Skills in ISO 17025 are an asset.
Proficiency in MS Office Suite and knowledge of a LIMS system.
