Reporting to the Director, Innovation and Research, the Laboratory Coordinator provides essential support for technical laboratory support services at the Nunavut Research Institute (NRI) laboratory facilities. The successful candidate will develop and implement laboratory health and safety and quality assurance plans, undertake analytical activities, manage the inventory of laboratory supplies and consumables, and provide preventative and corrective maintenance on laboratory equipment. They are key to the administration of the institute and will interact with other positions within the college, NRI’s partners, the scientific community, and Nunavummiut.
The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through the completion of a Diploma in laboratory studies or a relevant field and two (2) years’ experience in laboratory analysis or scientific research, as well as developing and implementing research methodology. Certification for Dangerous Goods Transportation and CPR are also assets for this position.
Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) certification is a condition of employment. The successful candidate must obtain the certification within the probationary period.
The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in English is required for the position. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
