Job Title: Laboratory Assistant (LECO Operator)

Reports to: Geochemistry Manager

Department: Geochemistry

Basic Purpose:

The main function of this position is to perform routine and non-routine tasks relating to the analysis of client samples using LECO and other analytical instruments.

Key Accountability/Responsibilities:

1. Ensure fast and accurate processing of incoming samples in priority sequence
2. Prepare samples for analysis including fusion, digestion and volume duties
3. Analysis of samples using LECO and other analytical instruments
4. Review and check data
5. Perform and document quality checks at all stages of sample handling, halting production where necessary and reporting to supervisor immediately
6. Operate, maintain and ensure calibration records are kept for instrument according to written instructions
7. Comply with occupational health and safety legislation, BV Group Policies and Procedures, Upstream Minerals Management System Policies and Procedures and ISO standards applicable to the Laboratory Assistant (LECO Operator)
8. Act in a safe and professional manner and wear appropriate attire including the required personal protective equipment (PPE)
9. Other tasks/duties as required or assigned from time to time

Skills and Knowledge:

1. Minimum some college or post-secondary education, preferably in Chemistry or Science
2. Some laboratory experience and handling of chemicals an asset
3. Familiar with WHMIS
4. Able to communicate in English, both oral and written
5. Able to work independently and as a part of a team
6. Safely perform physically demanding tasks with repeated lifting of up to 50 lbs

Working Conditions:

1. High level of work production in fast-paced lab environment
2. Can involve the repetition of the same process

4. Flexible working hours, overtime and shift work
5. May involve long periods of standing
6. Some lifting and carrying (up to 10kg)
