Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and dedicated Laboratory Assistant to support our lab operations. The Laboratory Assistant will play a crucial role in maintaining an organized, safe, and efficient work environment. Key responsibilities include cleaning and organizing lab glassware, ordering necessary chemicals and materials, managing inventory, performing verification of lab equipment, and handling reconciliation and destruction of samples. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to lab safety and cleanliness.
Key Responsibilities:
- Glassware Cleaning and Organization:
- Clean, sterilize, and organize all laboratory glassware and equipment as per established lab protocols.
- Ensure all glassware is ready for use and stored appropriately to maintain lab order and workflow efficiency.
- Perform regular inspections of glassware and report any damaged items for replacement.
- Chemical and Glassware Ordering:
- Monitor and maintain inventory levels of chemicals, reagents, and laboratory glassware.
- Place timely orders for chemicals, reagents, glassware, and other laboratory supplies as needed.
- Collaborate with vendors to ensure quality and cost-effective purchasing.
- Chemical Inventory Maintenance:
- Accurately document and manage the chemical inventory database, including tracking quantities, usage, and expiration dates.
- Ensure proper labeling and storage of chemicals according to regulatory guidelines.
- Conduct routine inventory checks and handle proper disposal of expired or unneeded chemicals.
- Laboratory Equipment Verification:
- Perform regular equipment verification activities as per standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Document verification results and report any irregularities or maintenance needs.
- Coordinate with lab staff and maintenance teams to troubleshoot and service equipment when required.
- Sample Management:
- Ensure sample reconciliation by verifying sample identities and conditions upon arrival.
- Maintain accurate records for sample status and perform regular reconciliation checks.
- Handle sample disposal and destruction following proper procedures to ensure safety and regulatory compliance.
- Documentation and Compliance:
- Complete all required documentation with accuracy and timeliness, ensuring adherence to Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
- Maintain compliance with health and safety regulations in the handling of chemicals, glassware, and equipment.
- Participate in lab safety drills and training sessions to keep up-to-date with industry standards.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, or a related field preferred).
- Previous experience in a laboratory setting or similar environment is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Familiarity with laboratory safety protocols and chemical handling procedures.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with lab team members.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.
- Capable of lifting and carrying laboratory materials and equipment up to 30 pounds.
- Must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by lab protocols.
Working Conditions:
- This position will work primarily in a laboratory environment with occasional exposure to hazardous chemicals.
- Adherence to all safety policies is required to maintain a safe working environment.
