About The Role

On-site | Full-time

This position will be responsible for organic instrumental analysis, including GC/MS and GC/FID and working with client samples providing analysis for routine VOC Organic chemistry parameters.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Responsible for preparation of standards, stocks and materials;
  2. Analyse samples for organic chemistry parameters, such as VOC, F1 and BTEX;
  3. Organise workload to meet turn-around-times (TAT) and hold times;
  4. Query a work list of samples, create work groups, data entry and data transfers to LIMS system;
  5. Perform detailed data review, interpretation, processing and entry;
  6. Ensure the quality of the analytical data meets ALS standards;
  7. Adhere to strict QA/QC requirements;
  8. Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality;
  9. Calibration of analytical instruments;
  10. Perform routine maintenance and ensure that GC/MS and/or GC/FID instrumentation is in good working order;
  11. Assist in other sections of the lab as required;
  12. Carry out all required record-keeping & documentation;
  13. Communicate with the Client Services staff as required;
  14. Deliver accurate results to our clients in a timely manner;
  15. Monitor inventory of spare parts and consumables;
  16. Work in accordance with safety procedures and the Occupational Health and Safety Act;
  17. Maintain a clean and safe work environment;
  18. Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;
  19. Other duties as assigned.

About You

  1. Excellent English communication skills (written and verbal);
  2. Intermediate experience with Excel and Microsoft Word;
  3. Well organized, with the ability to meet strict deadlines;
  4. Highly motivated with a positive attitude and strong work ethic;
  5. Ability to perform repetitive tasks accurately in a fast-paced environment;
  6. Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  7. Ability to work to deadlines;
  8. Accurate and efficient data entry skills;

Required Qualifications

  1. Completion of technical diploma or BSc degree in chemistry or related field;
  2. 2 or more years of extensive lab experience;
  3. Volatile or Semi-Volatile instrumentation or direct experience on alternate instrumentation an asset.

Physical Demands

  1. Ability to lift up to 30lbs and carry for short distances;
  2. Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks;
  3. Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as dust masks, gloves etc., when required;
  4. Ability to stand for a full shift;
  5. You may be exposed to unpleasant odours;
  6. Please note that ALS operates 24/7 and will require day, afternoon, and graveyard shift work including weekends.
