The City of Lethbridge Wastewater Treatment Plant is currently seeking a qualified Wastewater Treatment Plant Laboratory Analyst. This is a unique opportunity to work alongside and support a highly skilled team of professional staff and demonstrate your knowledge, experience and skills in the field of laboratory testing and data reporting.

Wage: $37.38 per hour (2024 rate under review)

Hours: 40 hours per week

This position will report directly to the Manager of the Wastewater Treatment Plant and facilitate successful biological treatment processes at the plant by completing regular laboratory operations. The successful candidate will also complete regulatory reporting and data analysis for the plant and provide support for laboratory administrative operations. The position typically works Monday-Friday between 6am-4pm on a compressed work schedule. Regular weekend shifts will be scheduled following the existing plant scheduling process.

Specific responsibilities will include:

  1. Perform chemical, physical and bacteriological analysis on samples for numerous parameters, including BOD, COD, TSS, Coliforms, Ammonia, Nitrates, Nitrites, TKN, Phosphorus, PH, Alkalinity, VFA, etc.
  2. Collaborate with operators to guide and resolve process related issues and optimization at the plant.
  3. Collect representative wastewater samples following plant procedures.
  4. Complete QA/QC activities for laboratory testing programs.
  5. Review data and testing completed by self and others for accuracy and completeness.
  6. Maintain a clean, organized workspace. Ready supplies and equipment for future shifts.
  7. Adhere to, participate in, and help develop the laboratory health and safety system.
  8. Complete plant reporting for federal and provincial regulators.
  9. Complete a variety of plant reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  10. Complete ad-hoc data analysis and reporting as requested.
  11. Develop and enhance automated systems for reporting which streamline workflows.
  12. Provide administrative support of laboratory functions to WWTP Laboratory lead as requested.

We are looking for individuals with the following skills and abilities:

  1. College diploma in a relevant lab focused program.
  2. Laboratory experience, preferably in areas relevant to the WWTP.
  3. Detailed understanding of laboratory processes and procedures.
  4. Detailed understanding of laboratory QA/QC processes.
  5. Demonstrated analytical and reporting skills.
  6. Experience working in a team, demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with other staff.
  7. A proven ability to learn and share your knowledge with others.
