Job description

Functioning as a team player, the Medical Laboratory Assistant will support all staff in the provision of quality laboratory services to assist physicians and other health care providers in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disease. This includes performing technical and non-technical procedures as required, under the general supervision of a Medical Laboratory Technologist. Required to perform relevant cardio testing procedures on an as-needed basis. The Medical Laboratory Assistant will focus on meeting or exceeding our patient/client needs and will support the mission, vision, and values as determined by Niagara Health while providing safe and competent patient/client care.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Graduate of an accredited Laboratory Assistant Program
  2. Current registration as Medical Laboratory Assistant with the Ontario Society of Medical Technologists or the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science
  3. Recent related clinical experience as a medical laboratory assistant in a clinical laboratory environment
  4. Demonstrated advanced skills in phlebotomy techniques for patients/clients of all ages
  5. Applies knowledge, skills, judgment, and competencies required for safe, independent, and inter-disciplinary practice
  6. Applies Niagara Health values and professional practice standards to patient/client care and service
  7. Integrates reflection, critical thinking, education, and relevant practical experience in problem-solving
  8. Working knowledge of computers, Laboratory Information Systems, and other related Hospital systems
  9. Consistent and regular attendance required
  10. Proficiency in both official languages (English and French) will be considered an asset
