Evidence to Care (EtC) is a dynamic award-winning, hospital-based knowledge mobilization (KMb) hub achieved via an agile, multidisciplinary team practicing high-caliber integrated knowledge translation (KT), informed by implementation (IS) and KT science. Our commitment is to build knowledge, inform decisions and transform practice by accelerating Holland Bloorview’s rise as a go-to-hub in childhood disability, strengthening capacity for everyone to identify and integrate new and existing knowledge into all kinds of their work.

SUMMARY

We are seeking a Knowledge Translation Specialist for a temporary full-time12-month contract. This role requires weekly on-site attendance, with some opportunity for remote participation.

The Knowledge Translation Specialist will work with team members to lead and participate in initiatives designed to leverage EtC’s knowledge mobilization skill set to amplify the creation, sharing and spreading of transformative knowledge in clinical, education and research domains; and champion implementation science and practice to advance evidence-informed care and grow organizational ability.

The Knowledge Translation Specialist brings a facilitative approach to the team, demonstrated through advanced critical thinking, partner engagement and co-design, and application of theories/models/frameworks/approaches to implementation planning and KMb product development. The Knowledge Translation Specialist has a strong ability to synthesize and translate evidence into action in designing and leading knowledge mobilization initiatives that support decision-making and behavior change.

Team members are expected to take initiative, work both independently and collaboratively, handle a variety of tasks flexibly, and stay current on best practices in knowledge mobilization/translation and implementation science/practice.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • KMb Product Development: Lead collaborators in the identification and co-creation of tailored integrated KMb products and strategies, using theories/models/frameworks/and other approaches from KT/KMb and related fields.
  • Implementation Planning: Design and execute implementation plans backed by implementation science (IS) for evidence-based practices and assimilation of transformative knowledge with clinical/family/research/education partners.
  • Support for Decision-making: Execute synthesis activities, generating key outputs such as rapid review reports, annotated bibliographies, and concept catalogs that summarize research findings and present key findings to meet identified partner needs.
  • Facilitation and Engagement: Head up and facilitate groups of diverse people using engagement and facilitation processes, ensuring productive and inclusive discussions that drive choice and actionable outcomes in project execution. Bring a perspective on equity, diversity and inclusion to efforts and work with content experts to ensure a multi-faceted approach using creativity and different channels to best reach intended audiences.
  • Organizational KT Capacity: Aid in the development of organizational capacity through consultations, expert speaker roles and educational opportunities, drawing on KMb/IS, adult learning, health literacy, and other disciplines as needed
  • Evaluation: Aid in the evaluation of KMb products, activities and strategies and help clarify goals and questions for KMb evaluations

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education

  • A master’s degree in relevant field (e.g., health sciences, rehabilitation sciences, public health or policy, education, social sciences, humanities or a related discipline) is required
  • Knowledge mobilization or translation certificate training from a recognized program (e.g., SickKids, Li Ka Shing, The Centre for Implementation) preferred

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in role explicitly focused on knowledge translation or mobilization and/or synthesis with full scope of responsibilities dedicated to these areas
  • Experience demonstrating both practical application and advanced theoretical understanding of KMb and/or IS in co-creation of knowledge mobilization products and/or implementation projects
  • History of facilitation and presentation skills with ability to facilitate engagement and conversations to ensure full participation of all parties in co-creation and shared decision-making
  • Experience with a collaborative and process-oriented approach to working with collaborators in product development, ensuring systematic and trustworthy processes
  • Competence in project management with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, balancing tight, short and/or far-off deadlines
  • Familiarity with adult education, change management, health policy, program evaluation and/or quality improvement methods is an asset
  • Familiarity with systematic and/or scoping review methodology is an asset

Skills & Abilities

  • Proven ability to synthesize complex information and translate it into clear, accessible formats for diverse audiences such as evidence reviews, infographics, fact sheets, handouts, and other educational resources
  • Proficiency with design tools to build knowledge mobilization tools outputs (i.e., Canva, Piktochart, Adobe) is an asset
  • Proven ability to apply frameworks and process models in practice, following structured processes with accuracy and consistency
  • Strong analytical and synthesis skills, with the ability to critically appraise and summarize evidence from a variety of sources
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly in creating materials that convey key messages in an accessible and engaging manner
  • Familiarity with health literacy principles and application in communication strategies is an asset
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously in an active team
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in developing trustworthy and quality products
