Job description

Journey Home Hospice – a program of the Saint Elizabeth Foundation – provides specialized 24/7 hospice care for people experiencing homelessness and structural vulnerability at end-of-life. Their interdisciplinary team of staff and volunteers receives enhanced training in trauma-informed, culturally safe, and harm-reducing approaches to care to better serve their patients and their loved ones. All services at Journey Home Hospice are offered at no cost to patients through the generous support of the community.

They are looking for volunteers to start as soon as possible. The schedules for volunteers run weekly, biweekly, or monthly depending on the volunteer's availability. Volunteers can determine the commitment they are looking to provide (3 months, 6 months, 1 year, etc.). All volunteers are required to complete the following:

  • Immunization report
  • Proof of 2 covid-19 doses
  • Vulnerable sector check
  • HPCO mandatory online training (work at your own pace)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assist in Meal Preparation and Preparation of Baked Goods: Prepare nutritious meals for our clients/residents. Tasks may include chopping vegetables, assembling ingredients, and following recipes.
  2. Maintain Cleanliness: Help maintain a clean and organized kitchen environment by washing dishes, sanitizing surfaces, and ensuring all equipment is properly stored after use.
  3. Manage Inventory: Assist in managing inventory levels by keeping track of food supplies.
  4. Grocery Shopping: Visit local stores or markets to purchase food items and supplies needed for meal preparation, ensuring adherence to budget guidelines and maintaining detailed records of purchases.
  5. Support Special Dietary Needs: Be mindful of dietary restrictions and preferences when assisting with meal preparation and grocery shopping, ensuring all meals meet nutritional guidelines and accommodate specific needs.
  6. Adhere to Health and Safety Standards: Follow proper food handling procedures and safety protocols to maintain a safe environment for yourself, other volunteers, and our clients/residents.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must be at least 18 years of age
  2. Passion for helping others and making a difference in the community.
  3. Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of staff and volunteers.
  4. Basic knowledge of food preparation and kitchen hygiene.
  5. Effective communication skills.
