Overview:
East Coast Private Lending Corp is a fast-growing private mortgage lending firm based in Atlantic Canada. The company’s primary role is to represent investors in individual private lending transactions, ensuring their capital is deployed securely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulatory standards.
We are currently hiring a Junior Underwriter to join our team in the Greater Moncton Area. This is a hands-on, full-time position that plays a critical role in assessing and structuring private mortgage applications across New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island.
The role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a proactive mindset. The successful candidate will be creative in applying lending criteria while upholding compliance standards and contributing to the efficient review and decision-making of mortgage applications.
This position will be in-office at the start, with potential for hybrid flexibility after a successful onboarding period, at the discretion of management.
Key Responsibilities:
- File Review & Triage:
- Quickly assess new mortgage applications and decisively decline files that do not meet minimum criteria.
- Review documents and internal underwriting scorecard prepared by the administrative team.
- Underwriting Process:
- Conduct a thorough review using internal scorecard tools and Monday.com platform.
- Analyze borrower documents, income, credit, property details, and risk factors.
- Recommend approval or decline of applications based on established lending guidelines.
- Internal Review & Investor Preparation:
- Present recommended files to Credit Committee or designated reviewer for internal sign-off.
- Support in preparing and presenting deals to private investors via our investor portal.
- Communicate clearly with investors, provide rationale for deals, and coordinate investment commitments.
- Instructions, Legal & Compliance:
- Oversee the preparation and provision of accurate mortgage instructions.
- Coordinate with legal support teams and external lawyers to ensure proper execution and closing of approved deals.
- Engage with provincial mortgage regulators as needed to support compliance and regulatory obligations.
- Maintain clear and timely communication with all internal departments.
Requirements:
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years in underwriting, lending, or financial services, ideally in a regulated lending environment.
- Licensing: Willingness to become licensed as a Mortgage Associate in NB and NS within the first 3 months of employment (a condition of employment) *PEI, if the licensing becomes necessary.
- Screening: Must be able to provide a satisfactory criminal background check. A credit check may also be required.
- Investor Relations: Knowledge of investments and experience dealing with private investors is required.
- Regulatory Awareness: Familiarity with provincial mortgage regulations and compliance expectations.
- Regional Familiarity: Understanding of Atlantic Canadian real estate and lending markets is considered a strong asset.
- Work Ethic: Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
