If so, consider joining the Justice Sector Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Office with the Ministry of the Attorney General (MAG) where you will manage low risk MAG freedom of information (FOI) requests and provide administrative support for the MAG FOI team.

The Branch

The Justice Sector Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Office provides access to information held under the custody and control of MAG in accordance with the Freedom of Information & Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA).

What can I expect to do in this role?

In this role, you will:

  • Manage and process low risk FOI requests received by the Ministry of the Attorney General in accordance with FIPPA and its related regulations, principles, guidelines, directives and policies
  • Perform a range of administrative duties such as FOI request intake, IT tickets, financial management, executive support, etc
  • Provide advice and recommendations to program areas, senior management, external stakeholders and the public regarding issues and access decisions
  • Manage, organize and maintain FOI case management system, correspondence, and office supplies
  • Participate in delivering training programs and conducting special projects

Note: This position is required to report to 720 Bay Street, Toronto a minimum of 3 days per week.

How do I qualify?

Analytical, Research and Problem Solving Skills

You can:

  • Analyze, interpret and apply FIPPA and its related legislations, principles, guidelines, directives, policies as well as orders, decisions and case laws of the Information and Privacy Commission of Ontario.
  • Perform office administrative support (e.g. FOI request intake, submitting IT tickets, managing office supplies/mail, processing cheques/payments, invoice/P-card reconciliation, etc)
  • Identify and flag contentious/sensitive information
  • Review and evaluate access and privacy issues and decisions
  • Investigate and research complex problems, and determine optimum resolutions while demonstrating attention to detail

Interpersonal and Communication Skills

You can:

  • Communicate effectively with all levels of staff, external stakeholders and the general public regarding sensitive and confidential issues in a diplomatic, tactful and concise manner
  • Prepare correspondence, training documents and briefing materials with accuracy in content, grammar, spelling, sentence structure, punctuation and format
  • Work cooperatively to build and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of staff and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrate influencing and presentation skills to promote adherence and provide training on FIPPA requirements and issues

Time Management, Negotiation and Organizational Skills

You can:

  • Manage and coordinate a caseload of FOI requests, administrative duties and other projects while meeting statutory deadlines
  • Exercise judgement to determine competing priorities and work activities
  • Negotiate timelines and liaise with multiple stakeholders to meet service demands and standards

Computer Skills

You have:

  • Proficiency with various computer software (e.g. Microsoft Office including Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint, spreadsheet applications and database systems) to prepare correspondence, input data and collect information for statistical reporting
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of internet and web-based applications to research and access information
