Junior Product Developer and Technical Designer

Our customer base includes Air Canada, WestJet, Canadian Coast Guard, Purolator, Petro Canada, Home Hardware, Alaska Airlines, and a broad base of government entities such as the Federal Government of Canada.

Job Summary: The Junior Technical Designer’s responsibility is to help create grading for all kinds of garments, sometimes patterns, conduct fittings, fit samples on models, and create made-to-measure specs. The incumbent works closely with the Product Development team to create accurate Technical Packages for mainly offshore production.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Examine and measure garments, pre-production samples, and top of production samples. Ensure that measurements, fit, and workmanship of garments meet the Unisync standard and communicate the same to the factories.
  • Create grading rules for Tech Packs and any measurement charts related work.
  • Participate in garment fittings to ensure the garment fits well.
  • Help prepare made-to-measure garment specs for factories and measure MTM garments before they are sent to the employee.
  • Create body sizing charts for the ESF.
  • Learn new skills from the senior technicians and assist with any technical tasks needed on a day-to-day basis.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience and Education:

  • A degree or diploma in fashion design.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Garment construction and production knowledge.
  • Creativity and innovativeness.
  • Time management.
  • Problem-solving.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Stress tolerance and ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Service orientation.
  • Mathematical skills: Grading formulas, percentages of fabrics on care labels.
  • Computer knowledge: MS Excel, Outlook, Word, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, pattern drafting.
  • Sewing knowledge (use of sewing machines, inserting needles and thread).

Working Conditions, Physical Effort and Environment:

  • Sitting for 5 to 8 hours.
  • Vision and color discrimination.
  • Making repetitive motions.
  • Little physical strength required.
  • Eye/hand coordination.
  • Use of sharp objects (needles and scissors).
