Reporting To: Manager and Team Lead

Full-Time/Part- Time: Full-time

The Opportunity

The Junior IT Software Test Engineer role will report directly to the Manager and Team Lead, IT Quality Assurance. The Junior IT Software Test Engineer role is responsible for building robust, scalable, and high-quality test automation solutions. Working on an agile Scrum Team, the Junior IT Software Test Engineer is responsible for aiding in testing First National’s internal systems with functional automation testing, API testing and using agile methodologies.

How you will contribute:

• Develop, maintain, and enhance test automation systems and tools for use by test engineers.
• Execute automated test cases, scripts, and scenarios to validate software functionality and reliability.
• Assist in assessing product quality and release readiness.
• Facilitate creation and execution of automated test suites.
• Analyze test automation failures and determine the root cause.
• Identify, report, and track defects by using bug tracking tools, and work closely with development teams to ensure timely resolution.
• Assist with the testing of all programming changes affecting First National’s software, b2b connections, webservice calls, documents, underwriting systems, websites, etc. All testing is to be documented and reviewed before sign-off.
• Assist with preparing for the implementation of software and product changes.
• Complete other duties as assigned by the Manager.

The experience you need:

• Bachelor of Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related (technical) degree.
• 0-1+ years of experience as a software development engineer in Test (SDET), or a similar role.
• Hands-on experience with object-oriented programming is a must.
• Experience with Selenium WebDriver is an asset.
• Experience with source configuration tool (e.g., Git) is an asset.
• Basic knowledge with SQL and an understanding of relational database systems.
• Development background is an asset.

Working Environment and Physical Demands Analysis:

• Periods of high volume with tight timelines.
• Long periods of stationary position/sitting.
• Prolonged periods of repetitive movement (i.e. using a keyboard and mouse).
• Long periods of time in viewing a computer screen.
• Multi-tasking may include speaking to customers on a telephone call while looking up information on a computer program.
