At TWD Technologies, we are seeking a highly motivated Junior/Intermediate Mechanical Engineer to join our Sarnia, ON team.
Job Summary
The Intermediate Mechanical Engineer is responsible for planning, organizing and execution of various aspects of mechanical engineering, piping engineering and design support. This will include participating as a member of dynamic project teams with a wide range of types of tasks. The position will provide the opportunity to work in a number of industries in which TWD services including Oil Sands, Refining, Chemical and Power.
Job Duties
- Supervise, perform and check most types of calculations and design using both computer-aided and manual techniques. Provide assistance to the Dept. Manager, as requested, in the areas of schedules, estimates, progress reports, meetings, procurement, activities, etc.
- Perform all or some of the following: organize/plan jobs, write/review specifications, write technical bid evaluations, prepare/maintain schedules, develop/monitor estimates and manpower forecasts, work with project/client/field, material procurement, permit, and subcontract activities.
- Utilize vendor data and work with personnel from other disciplines as required for the performance of designs. Utilize/perform squad checks of vendor data and drawings from other disciplines.
- Travel, as required, to ensure the successful execution of project and/or department goals. Perform self-check of completed work, develop self-confidence, and provide guidance to less experienced engineers.
- Exhibit thorough understanding of pertinent codes and governing regulations and industry practices, etc.
- Preparation, review and approval of mechanical packages (EQ’s) for processing equipment (e.g., pressure vessels, piping systems and components, pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, storage tanks).
- Preparation of Scope of Work and construction work packages (CWP’s).
- Review and approval of piping designs prepared by Mechanical/Piping designers. This includes development and review of stress analysis reports and piping specifications. Participation in PHA (Process Hazards Analyses) studies to analyze risks associated with equipment and manufacturing processes.
- Provide internal “Safe Design” checks on project packages.
- Preparation, review and approval of mechanical specifications for processing equipment (e.g., pressure vessels, piping systems and components, pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, storage tanks).
- Preparation of Scope of Work and Contractor Bid documentation packages.
- Review and approval of piping designs prepared by Mechanical/Piping designers. This includes preparation of stress analysis reports and development of piping specifications.
- Assisting in the ongoing development of TWD internal systems to improve our quality and efficiency of delivering effective projects to clients.
- Willingness to participate in and conduct field investigations. Provide engineering support in other areas of engineering discipline (e.g., civil, structural, electrical, etc.) as applicable.
Business Development Support
- Support the Business Development Team (BD) to effectively manage and expand existing customer relationships.
- Support the BD team to grow and develop a new customer base.
- Support BD activities including but not limited to proposal preparation, attendance at conferences, seminars, etc. for the purpose of networking and promoting the company.
Requirements – Job Specific
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- P.Eng. is an asset.
- 5-10 years of experience in the field of specialization from graduation.
- Mechanical Engineer background specific knowledge of ASME B31.3 majority of work is piping.
- Experience in field setting, not just design work in the office.
- Experience of relevant NACE codes are a plus.
- Familiarity with the design of distribution related electrical systems is considered an asset.
- Demonstrated understanding of engineering theories and principals.
- Able to conduct detailed calculations to ensure that designs meet engineered standards and applicable codes.
- Experience with multiple phases of projects including preliminary and detailed design, tendering, construction supervision and commissioning is an asset.
- Valid Class 5 Motor Vehicle Operator's License to facilitate independent travel to project sites and other office locations.
- Excellent communication skills both oral and written.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with a range of personalities to establish effective working relationships with the required stakeholders.
