Job Summary: Information Technology Services (ITS) is dedicated to a constructive, team-oriented environment, gathering varied perspectives, sharing knowledge, and building effective partnerships that enable our partners to achieve their goals by advising, providing solutions, and delivering service excellence in alignment with the University’s mission and goals. Reporting to the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), and working closely with senior Information Security Officers, IT teams, communications specialists, and multiple department/faculty unit leaders, you will support project and consultation work led by senior information security officers (Planning & Consulting / Threat Management).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Helps units and faculty interpret information security risk frameworks, researches and selects tools, develops an understanding of university risk environments through interviews, strategic consultations, and assessments across the institution around information security risks.
  • Evaluates and identifies point-in-time risks, risk trends, and effectiveness of risk controls relative to legal, information security, and business requirements/best practice.
  • Working with the CISO and senior information security officers, creates tactical (short-term) plans for mitigating risk.
  • Supports design, implementation, education efforts, and reporting to university leadership regarding risk states of the institution, security plans to address risk, and development of new risk mitigation strategies.
  • Conducts risk assessments and information security consultations with departmental directors, departmental staff, Internal Audit and members of faculties. Assists the ISO team in auditing compliance and ensuring KPI outcomes for information security policies and processes.
  • Communicates and supports a security awareness program to mitigate human information security risks present in the organization. Educates business units regarding industry regulations, standards and compliance requirements.

Note: The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.

Required Qualifications:

  • University Degree in information management, information security or relevant field, plus three to five years of related experience (or an equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • Knowledge of IT support environments, IT infrastructure, Endpoint device management, networks, and cloud service environments.
  • Experience relevant to information security systems and implementation.
  • Ability to learn technically complex environments, problem-solve, and assess risks on complex, multidimensional projects and initiatives.
  • Demonstrated communications skills and presentation skills, both verbally and formally in writing.

Assets:

  • Professional experience in information security.
  • An existing industry security certification (GIAC/ISC2 or related).
  • Experience in a postsecondary or public-sector environment.
