South Country Co-op is recruiting a Junior Talent & Culture Advisor on a full-time basis, on-site within our Business Support Center in Medicine Hat, Alberta.

Reporting to the Talent and Culture Advisor, the Junior T&C Advisor assists in providing HR support to the Human Resources team in order to ensure the HR functions are delivered in line with best practices and meet the needs of the organization. The successful incumbent will be resourceful, resilient, detail-oriented, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.

This position will also assist with the implementation of most aspects of the HR function including: labour relations, employee relations, retention, and adherence to applicable legislation and collective agreements, policy, and the full recruitment cycle in alignment with the organization's business needs. This position operates within a busy, diverse environment and involves a variety of administrative tasks and interacts with all employees at different levels across the organization.

You will also be responsible for:

Administration, Human Resource Functions

Primary:

  1. Assist with labour relations and employee relations items.
  2. Administrative functions relating to Employee Benefits.
  3. Full cycle of employee leaves including administration of short-term and long-term disability files.
  4. Maintain HR Information, personnel files, and confidential documentation ensuring data integrity within HR Systems.
  5. Advise on internal and external Human Resources related inquiries from clients and department managers.

Secondary:

  1. End-to-end employee lifecycle changes, including generating offers of employment/correspondence, promotion letters, terminations, and preparing and tracking new hire orientations.
  2. Full recruitment cycle including drafting and advertising competitions, pre-screening candidates, and pre-employment activities including reference checking.

Retail Support:

  1. Provide advice and guidance on interpreting and administering the Co-op’s policies and procedures, collective bargaining agreements, Alberta Employment Standards, Canadian Human Rights, and other applicable legislation.
  2. Support in the talent acquisition, orientation, and onboarding of team members.
  3. Maintain employee personnel records in accordance with all records retention, file maintenance, CBA, and legal guidelines.

Who you are:

You are looking for a career in Human Resources and have:

  1. Undergraduate degree in Human Resources, Business or Commerce, or post-secondary education with an HR-related discipline combined with a minimum of 1-3 years of progressive Human Resources experience in a retail environment.
  2. A combination of relevant experience and education may be considered.
  3. Current working knowledge of legislation, labour and employment law, human rights legislation, and related areas.
  4. Current working knowledge of employee benefits and pension.
  5. Current working knowledge of short-term and long-term disability insurance processes.
  6. Hold a current class 5 driver license with a clean driver's abstract and the ability to travel across our trading areas.
  7. Experience in a unionized environment and a CPHR certification would be an asset.
  8. Proven ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
  9. Current working knowledge of full-cycle recruitment processes, onboarding, and employee retention practices.
  10. Tech-savvy; competence in HRIS and ATS systems.
  11. Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (including Word, Outlook, and Excel); possess skills to develop spreadsheets and documents.
  12. Highly developed interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate at all levels in the organization.
  13. Results-driven and continuous improvement focused with a strong ability to respond to evolving priorities effectively.
