Responsibilities

What your day will look like:

  1. Coordinate and complete field programs for contaminated sites projects, including Phase I, II & III Environmental Site Assessments, hydrogeological investigations, soil/groundwater/surface water/sediment/soil vapour sampling programs, and contaminated site remediation projects.
  2. Assistance in the development of environmental management programs such as environmental protection plans, environmental permits, and other environmental compliance documentation.
  3. Complete documentation of field activities, site health and safety meetings, among others in paper and digital formats (as required).
  4. Completion of activities including preparation of sampling plans, collection and compilation of field data, digital geo-referenced data, and completion of field notes.
  5. Completion of wildlife surveys, watercourse and wetland assessments and vegetation surveys.
  6. Contribution to environmental monitoring tasks on construction and industrial sites.
  7. Assist in preparation of environmental assessment reports, including: compilation and analysis of data, borehole logs and test pit logs.
  8. Assist with designated hazardous substance surveys including asbestos and lead sampling and assist in air emissions testing programs.
  9. Operate, calibrate, and maintain project specific equipment.
  10. Ability to work remotely for up to two weeks.
  11. Ability to work overtime when required.
  12. Ability to work alone in the field with guided direction or partial supervision.

Project Coordination

  1. Coordinate with laboratories, clients, subcontractors, third-party stakeholders.
  2. Assist in report writing and preparation of technical memos, letters, reports, spreadsheets and figures.
  3. Providing assistance to project managers, engineers, environmental scientists and others on a variety of multidisciplinary design teams (including project engineers, planners, biologists, technologists), with the opportunity to develop into a Project Manager.

Qualifications

What you will need to succeed:

  1. A degree and/or diploma in Engineering, Geology, Geoscience, Ecology, Biology or Environmental Science or a related environmental discipline.
  2. Entry level to 2 years of experience in environmental consulting will be an asset.
  3. Ability to collect field data according to provincial and/or federal requirements.
  4. A valid driver’s license.
  5. Versatile, adaptable, and willing to conduct a variety of tasks.
  6. Comfortable with use and operation of a 4X4 truck in an off-road environment.
  7. Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  8. Eligibility to register as a ..., or will be an asset.

Experience

Knowledge of:

  1. Relevant provincial and federal environmental legislation, regulations and guidelines.
  2. General construction practices and environmental mitigation measures.
  3. Collection of biological and physical field data.
  4. Environmental baseline programs, environmental impact assessments, and environmental site assessments would be considered an asset.
  5. Working knowledge of AutoCAD and ArcGIS would be considered an asset.
  6. Proficient in data entry, data compilation and the management of databases.
  7. Proficient in Microsoft Office (MS Word, MS Excel and PowerPoint).
  8. Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication, and organizational skills.
  9. Proficient in the writing of technical reports.
