Purpose:

As a Junior Environmental Scientist, you will play a key role in supporting environmental projects across a range of sectors, focusing on data collection, fieldwork, and contributing to technical reporting. Your work will support senior scientists and project managers to ensure that projects are completed with precision, safety compliance, and adherence to environmental regulations.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist Project Managers in the execution of environmental projects, performing assigned tasks efficiently using standard methods and techniques.
  • Conduct fieldwork including drilling, excavation, multi-media sampling (soil, sediment, groundwater, surface water, and vapor), and assist in monitoring and data collection.
  • Track and report field activities—logging daily activities, overseeing subcontractors, and ensuring on-site safety supervision.
  • Assist in the preparation of technical reports and data management, ensuring all project documentation is complete, accurate, and aligned with environmental standards.
  • Support project coordination by managing the procurement of materials and coordinating contractor services.
  • Promote Health, Safety, and Sustainability Plans to mitigate risks and ensure the safety of team members, clients, and the public.
  • Participate in cross-disciplinary teams, offering technical support to other areas within the organization as required.
  • Work independently or as part of a collaborative team environment to accomplish project goals and deadlines.
  • Assist with project cost management and help ensure the timely execution of projects.
  • Participate in training and development programs to enhance skills and advance in your career.
  • Work flexible hours as required, including occasional travel, evening, and weekend work depending on project needs.

What you will bring:

Technical/Industry Experience and Qualification Requirements:

  • Strong understanding of environmental regulations at both provincial and federal levels.
  • Experience in field-based environmental programs (including media sampling and site assessments).
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to work independently while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Proficient in data analysis and technical report preparation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal, with team members, clients, and stakeholders.

Education-Qualifications, Accreditation, Training:

Required:

  • University degree or technical diploma in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Geoscience, or a related field.
  • Two (2) to four (4) years of practical experience in environmental consulting or related fields.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license and willingness to travel for fieldwork.

Preferred:

  • Working toward or holding a professional certification (e.g., P.Eng., P.Geo., P. Ag) is an asset.

For applicants based in the province of British Columbia, the salary range is $58,140.00 to $85,500.00. Application of the pay band: Variation in salary is determined by factors such as the candidate’s qualifications, relevant years of experience, geographic location, internal pay equity, and prevailing market conditions for the specific role.
